Why don`t the Texans use Aaron Glenn or AJ as Safety Valve on Kickoffs and Punt Coverage? That would end TD`s happening on Special Teams

Why don't the Vikes put Randy Moss on special teams? I see where you are coming from... but the last thing we need right now is a Sehorn pulled on us.

Starling was never injured... In fact, we cut him today.

True but Sehorn was returning a kickoff. Your only as good as your Special Teams are. Games are won and lost by special teams when 2 good teams are playing. I rather have AJ or AGlenn running down a return man than Brown (we saw what happen) even though it was the biggest hit by a Texan this yr can`t afford to lose Brown! Having AJ or Aglenn just sitting at the 50 seeing if a returner breaks away. Not to be in the middle breaking up the Wedge. I think Randy has been in a couple of Special Team plays. You should have your best athletes on Special Teams even if they are starters.

No putting AJ or Glenn on special teams is stupid.
They get paid way too much to be put at the position where injury is the most likely. It is much easier to find speedy non skilled players to help on special teams. |

Think about it. It wasn't STUPID when Deion Sanders was on special Teams. Don't know how far back you can go but Mike Haynes for the Patriots in the late 70's ran back Punts as an All Pro CB!

So, did the Giants feel smart when they lost Jason Sehorn for the season several years ago for trying him on special teams?
Putting star players back there is a serious risk, but in RARE cases it might be worth taking. Deion's upside was a rarity back there on kicks. There's nobody on the Texans' roster with that kind of upside, and therefore nobody worth the risk. |

Troy Brown use to be #1 Receiver and returned punts (Still Does). I think he is in his 12th yr! Texans should at least use Aaron for kickoff coverage as a safety valve. He would be great for pursuit angles. Bethel Johnson also is Safety valve on kickoffs for PATS

Just because someone is a good player at their position doesn't mean they'll be good on special teams coverage and vice versa. Eddie Drummond returned a kickoff for a touchdown, but don't let the #18 fool ya, he's one of the leagues best return men. He's also had several opportunities to change his number, but has stuck with that one for whatever reason.
If you want good special teams coverage guys, go get Jimmy Wyrick, Jeff Gooch or Rod Babers...they'll come cheap. These are all guys who have excelled at it. But don't stick a starter in there and risk injury, when he probably won't be as good at it anyways. And just speaking on the concept of using starters, I think Dunta Robinson would be a better coverage guy than Aaron Glenn anyways. Of course you'd never know until you saw them in action, but Dunta is faster and is a good sound tackler. He's also got a little more size it appears, thus making him a little harder to block and move out of position. I'm assumming AJ stands for Andre Johnson, and unless it was the last play of the Super Bowl I'd go with 10 guys on my coverage team before putting him in to cover a kick...but maybe that's just me.
