Sadly that would probably be a personal foul "helmet to helmet" penalty in the NFL.

Actually I don't think so. Between the tackles is different than outside, or in the open field. Someone will have to confirm that, but to my knowledge that is not considered a helmet to helmet hit because it's a running back in the tackle box.

New rule for 2014:

Quote:
“It is a foul if a runner or tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players are clearly outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle to tackle and from three yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team’s end line). Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or tackler against an opponent shall not be a foul.”

Man you'd be surprised...

Sometimes I forget that not everyone is a football junky irl like people here are and I feel like I'm just humoring some people that talk about football stuff.

I know probably most people that post here regularly has talked football with people that say they like the NFL and they don't know stuff that people here know.

But with football players, because those guys wear helmets, sometimes casual fans don't recognize their face. My mom watches the NFL casually and when the Texans drafted Clowney she asked me who the guy was "with the cute smile"

Thanks for verifying that. So that Clowney hit on the RB would not be a foul. It was clearly inside the tackle box and would be considered incidental contact of the helmets. Right?

Well, prior to 2014, it would have been a penalty. As to whether they rule that incidental contact, I think we've seen DBs get screwed on that several times. So I'm a little skeptical that they'd call it incidental. But hey, they could surprise me and hire Dick Butkus as a refereeing consultant.

Funny my little brother played with Gilbert when he was the QB for the huntsville hornets, that kid is an athletic beast. I knew he would be good but damn not as good as he was.

Personally I'd be all for it. Takes a lot of pressure off a top 10 pick. He's just got to do his job & that's not going to be easy for a rookie CB anyway.

Secondly, I'd think the Browns should be happier that the media is talking about JFF & not all the other crap they could be talking, should be talking, about the Browns.

Even with that bad slant they're putting on all of it, JFF brings them hope.

That quote was pretty funny!!!

***********

That said, (and certainly not directed at Doc), can we ALL QUIT CRITIQUING (sp) everything Johnny Manziel does???

Let him play a game in the NFL! Signed Joe "Broadway" Namath! (who BTW was not necessarily a great QB but he was brash....... At the end of the day, he lived up to it, earned it, owned it!)

This kid could flame out faster than VY (which was kinda predictable).... Then again, he could go onto greatness.

Quit speculating. Let it play out irrespective of all the media 24/7 news cycle, and social media BS!!!

I want to see him tear up all the OTHER TEAMS. Then show himself as the rookie he is when he plays us.

He's a Cleveland Brown. I couldn't care less if he fell off a cliff.

O'Brien: Manziel didn't fit Texans' vision

Quote:
The last question of the night came from a Texas A&M alumnus. The man asked O’Brien if there was any internal debate with the Texans about moving up in the first round in a move to select Manziel toward the back side of the opening round.

“No,” O’Brien said to a loud cheer. “Sorry.”

“We spent a lot of time with Johnny (Manziel) and I had great meetings with him,” O’Brien said. “He is a bright guy and I really enjoyed watching him play in college on film and enjoyed talking with him.”

O’Brien was speaking at St. Thomas to deliver a speech about "How To Build A Winning Team." It appears although O’Brien respects Manziel, Manziel didn’t fit the model of the team he’s trying to build in Houston.

“We have a vision for our football team and we stuck to that vision," O'Brien. "Every decision we made in the draft we felt led to that vision and we’ll see if that vision turns out the way we believe it will in whatever, a year, two years, three years. It was what we believed in and we stuck with it and we stayed disciplined in the draft and Johnny’s in a great situation in Cleveland.”
