Even bigger difference: arguable GOAT QB aged 36 or 37 v. QB ?

Those two teams cannot look at the distant future for return on their QB investment.

And someone on the Broncos is well aware - the oldest QBs to win SBs are Elway (38), Unitas (37) and Elway (37).

Steve Smith just went for 3 years $10.5 to the Ravens. $3.5 mil/yr.

I wasn't too far at $4.

They are building, every team who is adding players is building to improve their roster. If they were perfect then they wouldn't need to add players but obviously they do.

I didn't say anything about making a big splash, I could care less about getting one high payed player(although certain big name players could benefit the Texans). We have made NO moves, the only moves we have made are getting rid of pour players and now we are at practice squad caliber players as starters. Yes I know this is the start of FA and we still have the draft but you make my point by saying the Texans have many holes to fill so they need to start doing it sometime and that sometime is now.

Anyone that was expecting the Texans to reel in a top tier FA with our crappy 2-14 record and limited cap # was fooling themselves.

We will sign several FAs this Summer, but they will be JAGS. JAGs, draft picks and UDFAs will fill the remaining roster spots.
The draft picks and UDFAs will be part of the process regardless, I don't know how this translates to us not making any FA moves starting now to fill the obvious many holes we have.

The we are bad so we don't need to make any moves mentality makes no sense to me, especially in the NFL. This is not MLB where you rebuild for years, from season to season a football team can go from a winner to loser or vice versa( ex. Texans/Chiefs).

McNair told us this wasn't a rebuild. He hired a coach that had experience because he wanted a quick turn around.

When you're 2-14 you can't sit around and hope that journeyman free agents will come in and play like all pros. I'm just disappointed that we don't even seem to be trying.

We've taken a 2-14 team and removed some key pieces that kept us from going 0-16 including Smith, Tate, etc.

We've tried building through the draft since our existence. When we've spent over a decade 'rebuilding' it starts to get frustrating. I honestly don't believe that if we had the first 7 picks in the draft instead of the first pick in each round that we'd be competitors next year. It's a hard realization

Have you seen the ridiculous overpaying that's going on right now? The Texans aren't exactly sitting in a position where they can afford to do that based on the salary cap situation. The worst thing that the Texans can do right now is mortgage the future by shelling out bad contracts. The holes on the team will be filled reasonably. They're not just going to shell out millions to get guys signed just to appease the fan base. When the FO felt like we were just a few players away they made moves early in free agency. That's not the case this year. Let a lot of the higher tier free agents sign, set the market, and then become players after the first wave is over. Its the smart and logical thing to do at this point.

There's that Cap Space thing ya know? There's no a whole lot of sense in "pooring" more money into big names that aren't going to make the impact that will get us to where we want/need to be. Shirley you've been exposed to the results of the the teams that have taken that approach and how well said teams have prospered doing so.

The Jets are going to have to release Sanchez because of his contract cap hit which is even worse than Schaub's. Restructuring to keep him in NY WOULD create a riot.......it's NY!

The Raiders are now looking at Sanchez in addition to Schaub........looks like their choice could be the first to be released. The Browns could then be the only legitimate "partner" left.

Michael Oher signed by Titans. According to Adam Schefter, itís a four-year, $20 million deal that includes $9.5 million guaranteed. Would have been a good addition for Texans at RT.

He did have a poor year. But he sustained a severe right ankle sprain in Sept which he characterized as "the worst of my career." Like Newton with his patellar tendon surgery, Oher was never given time to recover and was dogged by it the rest of the season. You could actually see him limping during many of the games.

I'm seeing a lot of reasonable deals for players that could have made a huge impact input team.

The first wave of FA is over. Most of the overpaying is done. This is now the second wave of FA where more reasonable signings occur. There are still quite a few guys out there who could contribute for us.

Some guy at NFL.com says it's 12m total with 3.5m signing bonus.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200...ee-to-contract

Yahoo said it was 11.5m total, Twitter said 10.5m when it was announced. I guess we shall have to wait and see what the actual number is, but 4m seems to be about right. I think it will end up being higher once the full numbers are released, because it will likely be a 2 year deal close to 9m in total cost.

In any case, I don't think he would have accepted the same offer from the Texans. We are not an enticing destination for a guy on the last year or two of his career. Steve Smith wants a ring, and Baltimore is probably a good place to go for him.

"Inauspious"? Possibly, but not unusual or unexpected. It is not the MO of the Texans' organization to be active in the first wave of FA signings. We'll sign some FA players.
