I think he's saying (just a guess) that one of last season's IRed rookies, Quessenberry or Brennan Williams, can handle the job. I don't think anyone in their right mind believes in Newton.

My response would be this question:
There are two quality tackles at the top of the draft, Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson. Does anyone really believe that Quessenberry or B. Williams are of that quality?

I'd hate to see us pass up a chance build a solid O-line in hopes that one of those question marks "can handle the job".

Isn't this one of the most discouraging developments of this team - collapse of what many felt, was a premier OL? Replace Newton with Robinson or Matthews problem solved with a foundation piece moving forward the next 10+ years. Then which ever QB O'Brian wants to develop has a solid blocking scheme, premier running attack & tools needed to succeed. There is no disgrace, or precedent taking OT with the first overall pick either. Good chance if Texans did select Robinson, St. Louis picking #2 take Matthews, that's picks #1 & #2 overall taking OT, just like last draft Fisher/Joeckel.

Bill O'Brien doesn't see much difference between the first and second tier of quarterbacks, leading him to take the best available player in the draft.

Gus Bradley has watched Pete Carroll build a Super Bowl champion with the quarterback playing a secondary role. He could opt to add a defensive playmaker to the mix to help the Jaguars compete against the Indianapolis Colts and Andrew Luck.

Bucky Brooks' ThunderKyss Two Round Special Mock
Quote:
Round 1

1. Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
A frontline featuring Clowney, J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus would make AFC quarterback shake in their boots facing the Texans.

2. St. Louis Rams: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M

4. Cleveland Browns: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

5. Oakland Raiders: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M

8. Minnesota Vikings: Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo

9. Buffalo Bills: Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA

10. Detroit Lions: Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina

11. Tennessee Titans: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State

12. New York Giants: C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama:

13. St. Louis Rams: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama

14. Chicago Bears: Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh

15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State

16. Dallas Cowboys: Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville

17. Baltimore Ravens: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan

18. New York Jets: Marqise Lee, WR, USC

19. Miami Dolphins: Zack Martin, OT, Notre Dame

20. Arizona Cardinals: Dee Ford, OLB, Auburn

21. Green Bay Packers: Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State

22. Philadelphia Eagles: Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State

23. Kansas City Chiefs: Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri

25. San Diego Chargers: Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

26. Cleveland Browns: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville

27. New Orleans Saints: Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State

28. Carolina Panthers: Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama

29. New England Patriots: Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota

30. San Francisco 49ers: Demarcus Lawrence, OLB, Boise State

31. Denver Broncos: Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG, UCLA

32. Seattle Seahawks: Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia

Round 2

33. Houston Texans: AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama
The Texans have all of the offensive weapons needed to be a force in the AFC, but the quarterback position must be addressed. McCarron is the ultimate winner with a ton of experience managing game situations and egos.

34. Washington Redskins: Joel Bitonio, OT, Nevada

35. Cleveland Browns: Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State

36. Oakland Raiders: Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State

37. Atlanta Falcons: Jason Verrett, CB, TCU

38. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU

39. Jacksonville Jaguars: Tre Mason, RB, Auburn

40. Minnesota Vikings: Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU

41. Buffalo Bills: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington

42. Tennessee Titans: Jeremy Hill, RB, LSU

47. Dallas Cowboys: Marcus Smith, DE, Louisville

48. Baltimore Ravens: Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana

49. New York Jets: Jeremiah Attaochu, OLB, Georgia Tech

50. Miami Dolphins: Chris Borland, ILB, Wisconsin

51. Chicago Bears: Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois

52. Arizona Cardinals: Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame

53. Green Bay Packers: Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State

54. Philadelphia Eagles: Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State

I think at this point the Mockers are just making sure that every eligible QB in the draft is mocked to the Texans at least once so they can claim they NAILED IT.

As far as the Clowney/McCarron thing. I hate that "ultimate winner" line, but I do agree with the game manager + our current play-makers thinking. I hope we get a strong OL candidate with our next pick.

I know people don't like the "game manager" QB, and I think McCarron is more than "just" a game manager, but that's where I think all QBs should start. I don't think we're as talentless as some. With the right game manager we can win 9 games this season. With the right teacher/coach, McCarron can be a franchise QB.

I think.

He's a 340# NT who's quick on his feet and who commands a double team and clogs up the middle. If you single him, he will usually get some push in the pocket.

He's generally considered a 1st round talent. If you have a shot at him in the middle of the 2nd round, then that's a very good value and you should get him.

He needs some work and his game isn't perfect but he's got a lot of upside and he's EXACTLY the sort of player that RAC is going to be looking for on that line.
