Really historic the number of bullets the Browns have taken this offseason.

At some point you have to look in the mirror.

I've heard Brown let the coach go because he was not in favor of drafting Manziel. Can anyone confirm that? I really hope there is truth to ownership wanting JFF and willingness to trade us for him.

1. Manziel 2. Clowney to whomever 3. Bortles to Jags 4. whomever we want but I'm saying Watkins or Mosley or even better another trade down.

Have not heard that, and with the timing and Chud having little power I don't think it was even talked about. I don't think they had any idea so many top guys would say, "No thanks." Myopic.

That's the rumor, and it would explain a lot. It's very uncommon for a team to fire a coach after 1 year. It's very uncommon for a team to go through so many HC interviews before settling on someone. It's very uncommon for a team to wait so long to get an OC, and it's odd for a team to be so bad at attracting one. Maybe the organization sucks, and nobody wants to work for them, or maybe the GM it turning people off with his interviewing. I don't really know at this point, but it wouldn't surprise me slightest bit if it's all Mike Lombardi's fault.

Bingo. One of the 3 Stooges... the stoogiest.

I do know Kubiak was firm w/Browns that he wanted to bring 5 coaches with him and the people at the top balked. Front office "coaches" spoil the soup.

Really? Manziel hadn't even declared for the draft when Chudzinski got the axe. Would have been weird to have fired him & Manziel not come out.

You're thinking too logically. You have to think like Mike Lombardi. Try to picture yourself as a spoiled child growing up in a household that gave you anything you ever wanted, and your parents always said you were right, no matter how wrong you were. Then think about seeing your dream QB play some great college ball in most of his games, doing things you had never seen a QB do before, and falling in love with him. Then picture yourself as the GM of a team with a HC that didn't share the same man-love for your QB, and said that he didn't fit his offensive system. What would you do?

So it'll be interesting...

Ravens good QB, average WR vs. Browns great WR, ? QB running Shanniak system. (Texans HOF WR, ~average QB.)

Lot of 3 & long runs.

Browns announce Banner, Lombardi to step down
Quote:
The offseason shake-up continues in Cleveland.

The Browns on Tuesday announced that CEO Joe Banner and general manager Michael Lombardi are leaving the organization.

Ray Farmer, who toiled under Lombardi, has been promoted to general manager effective immediately. Banner, set to exit over the next two months, released a statement on Tuesday calling the transition "bittersweet."

Team owner Jimmy Haslam also released a statement, thanking Banner and Lombardi for their services before quickly shifting the spotlight to his new hand-picked GM, saying that "we're fortunate" to have Ray Farmer, who "embraces his partnership with (coach) Mike Pettine."

Add it all up, and Tuesday's events are a crystal clear indication that Haslam fully tired of a Banner-led front office that surfaced as the butt of jokes after firing coach Rob Chudzinski after just one season.

Cleveland's front office -- seen around the league as a top-heavy, confusing mass-- has been streamlined. The timing is surprising, perhaps, in that Banner and Lombardi were given input in the hiring of Pettine, but that elongated recruiting process had Haslam's fingerprints all over it from the start.

The biggest winner here is Pettine. The black cloud hanging over his young tenure as coach was a sense that he wouldn't wield any say over his own roster. Instead of dealing with layers of front-office men, Pettine will now work hand-in-hand with Farmer to rebuild a Browns team that hasn't won a playoff game since New Year's Day 1995.

The owner looks just as incompetent as them. He should have made a decision on them before the decision on firing the coach was made.

First thought: Crud - Lombardi's gonna be back on NFLN now.

Second thought: I wonder if Pettine is gonna survive the preseason (heck, he might be doing good to make it through OTA's)

I don't think he knew. Haslam just got educated by the very many interviews the Browns went through and the regular subsequent rejections. At some point he had to wonder what the problem was... and he started making calls/asking questions outside of the presence of Lombardi/Banner... and he learned why no one wanted his HC position. Ends up being an a$$-backward way of doing business, but with the correct outcome imo.

I think he was pressed into this move when Farmer went out to interview with the Dolphins. I think he called him back to Cleveland with the promise of these changes.

So perhaps Haslam is just a crook, and not a fool/stooge on top of that.
