Belichick, like Parcells and other great coaches, are teachers as much as anything else.

Sometimes, Belichick will open up and talk about facets of the game that can really educate folks (like the one you linked). These are the press conferences that I really enjoy. It's not about throwing guys under the bus or assigning blame, but rather breaking down plays, strategies, explanations of decisions, and even some football history. Belichick is brilliant that way. Every player that has played for him says the same thing, too. He opens their minds about the game beyond their position. They see big pictures of why things happen and how their roles fits into that overall picture.

It would be cool (to me) if O'Brien is that same type of coach. Deadpan on the stupid media stuff, but a teacher in other ways.

As long as I hear more about O'brian then mcnair will be fine.. when an owner is the spotlight and talked about in the media (cough*Jones* cough) that is a franchise in trouble...the media never really mentions the owners of good franchises. Owner should never overshadow the coach in the media unless **** is wrong.

Yep. Someone said once: If the owner of your franchise is known outside of your city, you probably have a bad owner.

There are exceptions, of course, like Robert Kraft, but, the point is valid. And, actually, if you think about it, how many ordinary fans know who owns the Patriots? Probably not that many.

There were people on this board who didn't like that Kubiak was so close-mouthed and evasive about the team and strategy and injuries and whatnot. But that's the way coaches SHOULD be.
Agreed.

Didn't we just have a year of Debartola stories about the great owner of San Francisco? Does this mean their Superbowls were somehow tainted by an owner in the press?

My comps go far beyond the recent salary cap era. Limiting it to the salary cap era is too small a sample size.

DeBartolo was 20 years ago, big difference from your owner being in the news after every (recent) game, ala Jerry Jones that Wolf was talking about.

Your post seems unthoughtful and arbitrary.

Edit: Marshall seems kinda trollish. Sorry if I fed into that.

B.B.'s winning record is insane regardless of era. Add into that the fact that he has done it in the salary cap era, and you get the greatest coach ever, easily. There's really not even a debate. Reading comprehension, what does it mean?

There is no doubt he is among the top candidates but there is very much a debate on greatest coach ever. Let's see what happens if Brady retires and Belichick keeps coaching. Lots of coaches haven't had the benefit of having 1 QB who happens to be in the discussion for GOAT for their entire tenure. Name something Belichick invented?

That's a really dumb saying. There are plenty of teams that have owners that football fans know and they're known as both good and bad owners.

If you're a super casual fan who only tunes in for the Super Bowl, okay fine, but if you're a regular fan or a hardcore fan, there's no reason to not know who most if not all the owners are.
