I believe that call was just the NFL being nice to the Texans. You see, Manning was going to throw the touchdowns needed to break the record any way. By reversing the call, the NFL would have just been adding to this miserable season. It's not like the texans were gonna stop him, why prolong the inevitable.

It's not about the Texans sucking or their inability to stop Manning, it's about getting the damn calls right. The NFL goes through the trouble of reviewing every scoring play to make SURE it's a score. They did NOT make sure even after reviewing it. So what's the point of replay? Why have it you you aren't going to get it right?

That's my problem with it. I couldn't care less that is was done against the Texans or that the Texans suck and it made no difference in the outcome of the game or the season. You have a system to get the calls right, get the damn calls right!

I believe you were replying to Speedy and his insistence on getting the call right, but in actuality, your example supports his point perfectly.

First, as opposed to the system to maximize accuracy simply failing to work (as it did in the instance of the Decker TD), the system was precluded from even being utilized, and the rule in place at that point in time prevented it.

Secondly (and more importantly) upon observing the impact of the rule, the NFL subsequently modified the rule (or at least the penalty for violating the rule), so that recurrences of the violation don't render the review system impotent.

In my mind, that totally validates his assertion that the most important aspect of this should be getting the specific call correct, regardless of the context of the occurrence.

We should all care about the 'integrity of the league' as pro football fans.

Otherwise, the sport runs the risk of eventually devolving into WWE-style entertainment where we start to question if outcomes are predetermined based on sales instead of competition.

I'm not trying to sound alarmist, but the only reason we do not care about this specific incident is because the Texans are cellar dwellers this season and seeing Manning set records at Reliant is just like old times. We have been conditioned by a decade of Manning's dominance.

Big picture, though, is that the league needs to hire full time referees for its $9 billion dollar empire, and it is ridiculous that they are the only big time pro sports league that does not have full time refs.

How they can bounce this TD upstairs for a review (like all scoring plays) and still come out with this verdict is suspicious, to say the least.

I am not surprised at all it was a game with Peyton Manning and Ed officiating. Its to be expected for the texans to get ****ed in that situation.
