How many times do we hear "throw it up and let Andre/Megatron/Fitz/etc a chance to make a play"?

Mike Evans is 6ft 5in 225lbs - you let that dude go up and make a play.

Yeah, the last time you saw a QB do great things with not much for a receiving was...Brady? And Brees, arguably. If you don't have talent, scheme takes precedent. And if you have talent, you use it.

Aside from the interception, Manziel had a fantastic game. Look at his TD passes, because they were fantastic. Defense also came to play today. Aside from fumbles I was very pleased.

He really is. He takes over in college. Not sure if he can dominate as he does now when he gets to the NFL, but he is an exciting player/prospect.

The million dollar question would be , if Sumlin got hired by the Texans and Johnny Football was there when the Texans picked , would he go with Keenum or pick Manziel ?

I want no part of Manziel.. that guy is going to get lit up and destroyed at the next level. The injuries are already starting to mount in the NCAA. He will not last at the next level with his size + playing style. Buyer beware.

I'm torn on Manziel.

The guy is really fun to watch, but he's also an accident in the waiting with the reckless way he plays the game.

And then there's the off-the-field stuffs.
I don't know if I want to invest millions of dollars on a Hollywood-type; higher risk of burn-out.

I'll take him on the third though.

To reckless with the balk for kubiak. This guy thrives with chaos and he's fun to watch. Best throwing and improvising on the move. It's a shame because he has talent but kubiak wants - needs somone low key. Manziel isn't it. Manziel just might be the opposite of what kubes looks for. We want smarter and SAFER. Kubes doesnt go all in on qb's. Which is what manzel is....flaming torch glory or a dumpster fire.

I don't get the Kubiak criticism when referring to Manzeil. We also don't know what a "Kubiak QB" is since the only one he's really had was Schaub.. however I wouldn't describe Keenum as "safe and low key" and we did have Grossman on the roster who was as reckless with the ball as they come. Watching how the playcalling has changed with Keenum under center I'm beginning to think the "Kubiak only wants safe QBs and needs someone low key" criticism is a bad wrap.

It's a coach's job to put players in the best position to succeed and with Schaub under center he had to play it safe. You can't exactly open up your entire playbook and run exotic plays for the QB with a QB as limited as Schaub was. He simply didn't ask Schaub to do anything that Schaub wasn't able to do.

If they decide to pass on Manzeil it'll either because they believe in their current starter or they don't believe in Manzeil's ability at the next level or they're scared off by his off the field antics.. which just about every G.M./coach in the league will look into and vet him, so again.. it won't be exclusive to Gary Kubiak. And if someone is a flaming torch of glory or a dumpster fire, than they shouldn't be a first round pick. First round picks should be viewed as can't miss prospects. I'm with 76 on this one though, if he falls to lower rounds, I'd take a shot on him. That's where you start looking at "the blaze of glory or dumpster" players. I certainly would not spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on him though, but I'm sure somebody will.

Still, he needs to work on that decision making. His first year is gonna be rough in the pros.

Risk/Reward

Somebody will accept the risk. If they hit on Manziel they will be set at QB for the next decade. Miss and they will look foolish.

I don't like Manziel though I can't deny he's got insane skills when everything falls apart. I just don't believe that will serve him well in the NFL where everyone is fast and offenses are all trying to keep things under control during possessions. The first time things fall apart he'll whip out his "Johnny Football Magic Bag of Tricks" and surprise someone. Aggies everywhere will say "I told you so!". A few weeks later he'll be utterly destroyed by some DC who understands how to stop him. Shortly after that everyone in the league will have seen how to do it and Manziel becomes a footnote in some teams draft history with a note scribbled next to it reading "Should have known better".

One guy making **** up on the fly doesn't win NFL games for very long. A few weeks, maybe a season if he's on a team with some assets. It ends the same way though. Picks and injuries followed by "I hope you invested that rookie contract money wisely"

Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkenton and Archie Manning do not agree with you.
