I dont know whats going on in his head either, but I did not see any crowd pumping going on. Although the game got out of hand early. Maybe he just reached his frustration level too.

Damn I was only referring to the front 7, but why they insist on man to man coverage when Joseph is playing poorly is juat as baffling. How did we get to this point? Whatever mystery any part of this team had is gone. Predictability is written all over.

When you're on a losing team, you cannot help but take on the persona of a loser just by osmosis.

Obviously JJ Watt is anything but a loser, but I can understand the helpless feeling that no matter what he does out there, he is still on a sinking ship right now.

We used to see frustration and anger on his face a couple of weeks ago. Now he just looks like he's tired of it and seems resigned to the fate of the team. Nobody seems to be showing much fire out there, except for maybe Cushing. He has that permanent scowl thing working with this face, even when he's happy.

JJ hates his headcoach and qb. Not as people but as his leaders. Read between the lines

How about this explanation:

JJ has played his guts out for this team. He was under the false assumption (like a lot of fans) that his team was as committed to excellence as he is.

He has consistently done his job. He has become the primary focus of the opposition offense. They have double and triple teamed him. They have chipped, grabbed, held, and face punched him. Yet he still causes problems. Offensive coordinators are doing anything they can to take him out of the equation and daring the other Houston defenders to step up.

Reality hit hard right after the niners game. This team is no where near as good as he hoped/believed. Remember this is only his third year in the NFL. He really had no reference point. He also witnessed, for the first time, the true colors of some of the Houston sports fans.

JJ doesn't appear to be motivated by money. He already has enough to live a nice Midwest lifestyle for the rest of his life. His personal standards are high. He doesn't tolerate mediocrity. He has goals for his team and himself.

Maybe he realizes his prime years will be a mirror of Andre's. Stuck in a mediocre organization waiting for the team to take "the next step".

JJ is a Texan based on being drafted, his contract, and the NFL labor agreement. How would you feel if you were in his position?

Super passionate about your job, busting your butt, only to have your company swirling the drain and nobody able to stop the flush.

Compound that by being indentured for possibly the next four years (a large portion of an NFL players career) and it's pretty easy to see what might be happening in his mind.

Sure he'll be well paid, but money is not what drives JJ. He's a smart guy. He sees the handwriting on the wall and the message sucks.

This is a overreaction. It's just one game (and he didn't play terrible). It's pretty hard to get sacks when you're getting your ass beat in 3 out of the last 4 weeks. Not many opportunities to rush the QB, especially since teams have been gashing us in the run game lately. I understand he had one of the greatest year of all time for his position last year. Most likely won't repeat it. But he still has 56 tackles (48 solo) and 5.5 sacks. But we haven't played half the season yet. Besides 56 tackle not far off from the 81 (69 solo) he had last year. He's on pace to beat that (which is remarkable considering what position he plays). JJ's still JJ relax.

He absolutely is. Not much he can do with two guys chipping away at him every play. And he's still getting some good penetration. It's up to to the other guys to win their one-on-one battles.

So far this season the Texans have faced 137 passing attempts.

At this point in 2012 they had faced 205 passing attempts.

That combined with the Texans not putting the opponents in obvious passing situations is limiting his opportunities.

Or unblocked. Brooks Reed is just too slow to get there.

JJ having worse stats is expected since teams play him differently this season. What is telling is when you have one guy absorb that much attention in the middle of the line you expect your edge rushers to beat one on one matchups on the edge and you expect the other linemen to excel because there are not enough offensive linemen to double anyone else.

Reed sets the edge well but he doesn't rush the passer well. Whitney Mercilus is great in pursuit and down line but he doesn't set the edge well and is an inconsistent pass rusher. Sharpton/Mays can't shed a block and are good back up players but not starting caliber. Earl isn't a two gapper so he can be single blocked fairly easily.
