Think players, not plays. You think defenses are worried about graham or daniels? No defense thinks either of those guys winning vertical like the other high end tes.Think of the best tes in the game right now and none were ex qbs. Most were ex basketball players. Why did I mention that? Athleticism. Most times, the qb who moves to te is because he can read coverage, not because he a good foot athlete. When u see gates, jimmy, jordan, gonzo, gronk, hernandez, davis, and even fred davis and cook, those guys are great foot athletes. Even the habitual ball dropper jermichael and the resurgent martellus are great foot athletes. Who do the texans have? That's my point.

Cant speak for the Rams but our pregame starts out with Schaub warming up with the Rams secondary to try and develop some rhythm come game time. Shane Lechler will be punting hot dogs to Randy Bollocks as he catches all of them with his mouth. Texans D will be hitting a tackling dummy with a Schaub jersey painted on it but the dummy will fall before anyone of them get to hit it. Kubiak brings a podium and a script to the sideline and practices tapping it while practicing his lines "its on me" and "we have bigger problems like D and ST" but has a hard time because he cant read his own handwriting. Joe Marciano will name Ben Jones as the new kick and punt returner claiming "this guy is explosive" after hearing him take a dump after practice this week.

Default Re: Guess the Ram's game plan with Matt at QB

I used to see OD getting open straight down the seam frequently. I think that was more scheme and offensive design rather than athleticism but it did work. So while having an elite athlete at TE would be great, in the past it hasn't been critical to have here.

Can someone tell me what happened to the play action and boots this season? The PA and/or bootleg off of PA consistently worked well until late last year and this year. So, you say defenses aren't biting anymore. Well, they bit last year until late. And the year before that. And the year before that. And the year before that. And the year before that.

But suddenly, defenses have it all figured out? What, did a genius come in from Switzerland and have a meeting with the DC of the other 31 teams?

I don't doubt that some of it is that these other teams have seen the Texans time and again, and we continue to trot out the same exact formula year after year with nary a wrinkle. So, maybe that is some of it.

But that doesn't explain all of it. Now when we PA, Matt stands there like a chicken crossing the road, not quite knowing which way to go and then dumps it off for a couple of yards. On TV it's so hard to see the whole field so I can only guess he isn't seeing guys open.

Bottom line is when the PA and boots don't work in this offense, it stinks to high heaven. The question I have is why isn't it working?

Is it just the QB? Is it defenses catching up? Play calling? Players? Oline? Scheme?

Whatever it is, either the execution must get MUCH better, or Kubes must change the whole nature of the offense, which is basically impossible mid-season and which I don't think he is capable of anyway. He is completely married to his version of the west coast.

I see a long, long, season ahead I'm afraid. I've gone from predicting 12 wins to around 9 to 8 and now I think more like 6 - which will be the patsies and mainly because the D is good...but even that might be on the high side if the D slides at all.

And for all you people saying the Rams are going to be easy sledding, let's talk again about that around 3pm Sunday. I won't be surprised in the least if the Rams win. In fact, I'm expecting it.

The bootleg has been our staple in the Kubiak era.

Is one reason teams are better against it now because they have to respect genuinely mobile dual threat QBs far more. The likes of Kaep, Wilson, RGIII...all of a sudden the texans' bread and butter is just a tame little brother and is become bread and butter to our opponents.

The really weird thing with Schaub is, whilst he's always lacked mobility, hes also never really been a true pocket passer either.

I'm done with Schaub, but props to the guy...made the most of his god given talent and had a good career, been good for the texans, and seems a genuinely decent bloke.

At some point, you gotta take the poorly hamster to the vets and end the suffering. I bet Kubes' hamsters all died in pain when he was a kid

I see something similar.

Run, run, run, run, run, punt.

run, run, slant, punt.

run, run, run, run, run, FG

run, slant, slant, punt

repeat.

There won't be any talk of a Matt Schaub turnaround. Instead, they'll be asking him if his play calling was due to his QB being shell-shocked. He'll say no, the entire play book was at our disposal, the game just wasn't very conducive to a lot of passing.

No one will put him on the spot & remind him we were down 21-3 at the half.

I think too many of us are giving KC too much credit. We'll beat them & some are going to put that in the quality win column.

If not for Schaub's recent troubles, on paper we should unquestionably be the favorite going into KC.

I don't think Matt would play this poorly all the time. I think we can win with him if the rest of the team is not making mistakes. But when he's playing like this it doesn't matter. Either way I think he's either a burden or a huge burden.
My opinion of Matt Schaub isn't far from yours. & I'm seeing the same guy he's always been. The only reason I can think of anyone trying so hard to blame this on his Lisfranc, is that they actually thought he was a franchise QB.

He's one step up from a game manager. His biggest weakness is that he is not clutch. If he had a little clutch in him, he could be mistaken for "elite" in this system.

If we were to get to the play-offs this year, we're going to need Arian to be clutch. Matt can move the ball between the 20s, but in the RedZone, it's got to be Arian.

Kubiak knows this. That's why they signed Schaub for $40M less than Romo, Flacco, & Ryan.

I think the Rams feel bad for him. Their hearts are going to melt when Schaub is booed at the intro, the coin-flip, & the first time he walks on the field. The defense is going to tell him what they're doing before the snap, try to help him out.

At the snap, they're all going to point to open receivers. They'll knock down a couple of sure interceptions, but on that third one, their going to run it to our end zone for him.
