Damn it. I didn't get a chance to see the game except for the onside kick and what followed.

31-26 and the stats look like it was a good game to watch. I hope FSSW replays it.

I was worried about this one, good to see the W. No more Owls!

Game wasnt as close as the score indicates, Houston looks pretty good, they are slow starters but once they get it going they look tough to stop. And Greenberry looks like a future #1 draft pick IMO.

Just got home. Bloody Hell, that was too close.

UH defense needs to get a whole hell of a lot better before they play BYU and Louisville.

As I said I didn't get home in time to watch, but the box score is interesting. Later I'm going to look at the play-by-play to see if I can get better picture of the game.

Speaking of a better picture, I just checked for a replay in the next 24 hours and just outside of that 24 they'll have a replay on FSSW at midnight Sunday night/Monday morning. I hope they'll show another broadcast later in the week at a better time.

Here is a box score if you haven't looked already.

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=332640242

Chron.com article on the game

Quote:
The Cougars (3-0) won for the 29th time in 40 meetings in what could be the final Bayou Bucket for the foreseeable future.

With the Cougars ahead 31-13, Rice scored 13 quick points on a 1-yard touchdown run by Taylor McHargue and a 62-yard touchdown return on a blocked field-goal attempt with less than 2:30 remaining.

Chris Boswell, who missed a pair of long field goals, perfectly executed a reverse onside kick that the Owls recovered near midfield. The drive stalled when McHargue's fourth-and-4 pass fell incomplete.

UH had taken a commanding lead on a pair of touchdown passes by O'Korn a 28-yarder to Deontay Greenberry late in the third quarter and a 32-yarder to Ryan Jackson to begin the fourth quarter.

The O'Korn-to-Greenberry connection was again dangerous for the Cougars.

Greenberry had his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game, finishing with six receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown.

O'Korn, who replaced injured starter David Piland, was 15-of-33 for 281 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

He briefly left the game in first half and was replaced by backup Greg Ward, who had nine carries for 80 yards.

After scoring a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, Rice went 10 consecutive possessions without scoring until Taylor McHargue scored on a 1-yard run with 10:52 left in the game.

The Cougars defense followed up its solid performance two weeks earlier against Temple, holding the Owls to 160 yards total offense after halftime.

Turner Petersen had five catches for 102 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the game, for the Owls.

The two rivals are not scheduled to play beyond this season with both now in different conferences.

One other thing about the game. How was the crowd? How many, pro-Cougars, pro-Owls? I can't seen to get info in that regard.

***********************

While I'm here. In the past I used to go to uhcougars.com and there was an in-game blog-chat box where you could go and comment as the game is on. It was just like the gameday threads here. I haven't seen it at all this year and was wondering if anyone knows what happened to it. I miss that damned thread.

Thanks in advance.

I figured pro-Houston but since I wasn't there and the press, local and otherwise, hasn't commented on how many and who-for I was curious. Thanks.

If our dearly departed keep tabs from the great beyond, my dad is one happy winged-camper tonight.

Which in Rice math means there were probably 26-27k butts in the seats.

59-28 Coogs! D has to improve. 1-3 Qts are just too close against UTSA.

The O'Kron-Greenberry connection is showing promise.

D has to play better though but they did come up with 5 turnovers in the 4th quarter.

Agree about O'Korn-Greenberry connection. Something to look forward to.

Yes, D had 5 turnovers in the 4th but, perhaps UTSA' QB is forcing just a little too much? Anyway, I am not convinced about UH' D. Hopefully, somehow Coog's D can improve.

Then again, when was the last time people were truly impressed with our D?

True. But I just want to see some improvement. With improvement of D and current O, can take you to top 25 which should help future UH recruits. I want UH to make some noise coming future.

The D was much better in the 2nd half saturday. The turnovers in the 4th quarter sealed it for UH. I also think the pressure of matching UH score for score might have helped as well.

Did not know UH was 4-0 to start the season. Hope they don't get run over by BYU.

Yes, they have wins over Southern, Temple, Rice, and UTSA. They should beat Memphis at BBVA on the 12th then BYU will be a better gauge to how good they really are.
