Anyone that can shed more light on this - thanks!
From what I recall at the Combine, that was one of his selling points: he could return kicks. He's the All Time Leader in Punt Return Yardage... at Idaho... which isn't really saying a whole lot.

And Kubiak last preseason:

Quote:
Martin, a fourth-round draft pick, finished his college career at Michigan State ranked second in punt return yards (659) and eighth in kick return yards (1,100). Kubiak said Holliday will field all the kicks on Thursday night, but he's also confident that Martin and safeties Shiloh Keo and Danieal Manning could also handle kick-return duties.

Keo was also used on KO return occasionally.
In his career he also notched runs of 31, 32, and 35 yards.
Those were his only rush attempts in college.

He played 2-way in HS, at safety and RB.
In his Sr year, he rushed for 1,572 yards on 113 carries (13.9 average) with 21 TDs.
He also threw for 3TDs.
Keo was also the starting shortstop for his school baseball team.

Keo returned punts in college .... was a very good special teams player @ Idaho.

I think its giving him an opportunity to separate himself from Pleasant because I don't see both staying on the roster (pending Reed's health).

Texans training camp is officially over as of today. No more two-a-days.

Coach Kubiak gave the team Monday off, which was the last eligible day for TC.

Quote:
(on breaking two-a-days) “You know what, it used to be a big deal. Since we’re home all the time, it’s not that big of a deal. In the old days, you were somewhere else and you got in your car and drove as fast as you could and go home. Nowadays, nothing really changes. But we’ve had a good camp. Today’s the last day, which they say it is, it’s been very good. We’ll get into our routine next week.”

Not to split hairs, but I think the separation between Keo and Pleasant is already vast. I mean Keo wasn't starting for no reason.

Like I said before I think it all hinges on how healthy Reed is. We can't go into the season with only 3 healthy safeties so we may need to have Pleasant on the roster initially.

If I understand PUP correctly Reed would have to miss the first 6 games if he's on PUP when regular season starts. Can anyone confirm that?

Since Keo has been with the Texans, have you ever seen him flash the athleticism that would lead you to believe he could be an NFL punt returner?

I haven't, either.

So what did Keo do in pee wee football? Because that would have as much bearing on his ability to perform in the NFL.

Why do people need to be sarcastic so often?

A guy who had shown to be able to play different positions and different sports shows that he has versatility. It is the reason that prompted Deion Sanders to praise Keo at the combine and no doubt the reason why Wade Phillips drafted him.

Or do you think differently?

Yes, I think differently. I see Keo as fringe athlete who has zero chance of being a good NFL returner. He lacks speed, quickness, agility. And that's just in his play as a safety. And I don't know or care what Sanders was thinking.

He wont be special .... but he will be solid / reliable as a PR. Think Kevin Walter .....

I don't want to see him as the KR to , we saw enough of that last season ....

Kevin Walter wasn't a punt returner. Jacoby Jones was the 15th ranked PR in the league last year, averaging 9 yards/return. Do you think Keo has that ability? Antonio Brown is an outstanding athlete, and he averaged 6.8 yards/punt return. Could Keo approach that?

Could Keo fair catch without muffing? Sure. Is that what the Texans are looking for in their return game? Sounds like another huge fail is looming for the Texans special teams.

Well, so far he has one punt return for 11 yards (in 2011), so it wasn't like he was terrible right off the bat.

Also, he had dropped some weight.
He's listed on the Texans website at 209 instead of 219 at the combine.

Now he didn't run a fast forty at the combine, but his other numbers show more burst than people tend to believe.

Check the numbers out at nfldraftscout.

D Manning may have ran a 4.48 at the combine (at 202lbs), but his ten-yd split was 1.62, as compared to 1.61 for Keo.

His 20SS time and 3-comes were 4.08 and 7.24
Keo's numbers were 3.9 and 6.55, both were quite superior to Manning's

Those three numbers combined with the weight loss tend to show an athelete with a quick short burst, which is what you want in a punt returner.

What I mean was think of KW as a receiver - not special or spectacular .... just solid / reliable. That's what I see from Keo as a PR.

That's not to say he's the PR during the season .... but he will be a reliable PR who will protect the ball and make no mistakes if he's called upon.

Yeah , I think he could average 6-7.5ypr .... No he wont give us the highlight reel plays Jacoby Jones is capable of , but he wont scare the sh!t outa us every time he touches the ball either.

Why isn't Martin returning punts/kicks? In my opinion, he's the most capable returner right now. He's fast and quick.

Keo's the guy who showed up at the combine with 20% body fat as a defensive back. Fail. And he's supposed to be returning kicks and punts? Please tell me it's a joke.
