People see different things. Both at games and at practice. When observing the same event.

You may be right. Not my observation. He has had better days and has been a standout since Bonner got hurt.

Kubiak did mention wanting to see Lemon as a return man..... at least I think that's what I read. I'll try to find it.

Since Bonner went out, Lemon has shined with more opportunities.

Although, will note that most of the offense looked horrible on Wednesday. Like Kubiak eyeball laser beams of death horrible. This was the kind of day that Kubiak lets loose with some anger you typically don't see on public camp days.

The argument makes 0 sense. David Anderson is the proof that the position was important?

And you shouldn't keep players that are worse than other players. The slot receivers in this offense don't have to be little guys. Martin probably won't even play much if posey comes back and can play.

Martin hasn't even shown he can play the slot at a high level. He hasn't even flashed as a playmaker from that position. He's dropped a ton of balls when people are around him and he doesn't really catch the ball and pick up yac.

The threat to Martin is anyone that looks significantly better. He'll get the benefit if the doubt since he's a draft pick, but not because he's seen as some guru of the slot position.

It remains unclear when Ed Reed will be able to return from injury.

Texans free safety Ed Reed wasn’t at practice today. Coach Gary Kubiak said Reed was given permission to work with his own rehabilitation specialist a couple of days this week and next week.

Reed remains on the physically unable to perform list while he recovers from arthroscopic surgery on his hip. Usually, Reed works out on an adjacent field with the other players who are also recovering from injuries.

Kubiak said Reed is visiting with a rehab specialist he’s worked with while recovering from other injuries during his career. Reed is trying to return in time for the regular-season opener at San Diego.
link

I know the Texans are playing this down. But do you really think that if all was going well and as planned, Reed would be traveling anywhere for rehab..... for any reason? Understand this. Reed has yet to be able to run and practice, and has looked somewhat gimpy, even on the sidelines. The importance of hips to a safety........for running, cutting and especially torquing/swivelling those hips that you always hear about in evaluating safeties........are like the importance of eyes to a tight rope walker. In each case, lacking that facility puts them "dead in the water."

Good point for sure. I see no reason to be optimistic that he gets off the regular season PUP list. I think he is on it and then works his way back in around mid-season.

While I highly appreciate the Veteran leadership and presence he brings to the team, I'm just not sure how good he will be on the field even at 100% health. The last couple of years he really was starting to show some wear on the tread.

I'm more pessimistic on that safety spot now than I was coming into camp because DJ isn't ready, Reed is not coming around - and that leaves us with Keo. Dear God.

Yes, Gary Kubiak is going to cut Martin because he had a terrible rookie season and didn't blow **** up in preseason game #1.

Do you guys just sit around coming up with wacky cuts that would go completely against what we know about Kubiak and Smith just so you can be mad at the Texans?

I was wondering about that. If he sees himself as a Center, but just helping out where he can. I like this, guy wants to start.

FWIW, he's been running on the side field. A lot. I haven't seen him look gimpy. He's been doing drills that involve changing of direction.

I'm not sure he likes people watching his workouts though. He busted me doing it once and jokingly asked me if I'd like to join him.

I think of the Ed Reed thing as sort of like accommodating Roger Clemens...he's accomplished so much in his career that you are going to let him do stuff that some other guys don't do.

Martin has had a great camp. When there is no real hitting.

That being said, he can't have last year's drops nor the drops that he had in the first preseason game.

The Texans use the short pass like a run. Dropping short gimme passes are death to the offense because the offense crushes people when down/distance sane.

Though people talk of him as a slot guy, I actually think he looks better with targets near the sidelines not over the middle. Worry some he gets knocked off his routes, over physicaled off the line.

That being said, he has had a great camp. Needs to translate it to games.

What was painful about a lot of those drops were that he wasn't being used as a down field option with low percentage throws. His targets were supposed to be the gimme, move the chains ones.

I wasn't buying on Martin in the last camp. Very inconsistent. Looks much more consistent this one.

Just needs to translate that into games. 3-4 WR sets could be more fun to watch with that.

What's this I hear about Keo returning punts? Really?

I don't remember hearing of this skill in his college history although I'm not sure. He isn't fleet of foot, doesn't seem to have much wiggle or elusiveness, etc.

Anyone that can shed more light on this - thanks!

Texans To Watch: Miami Edition
Quote:
Much has happened since the Houston Texans played their first preseason game and there will be plenty of familiar faces back for the second preseason game. The Miami Dolphins are coming to town and will be looking to make a good impression for the season.

A new injury to Wade Smith and the return of one player in particular for the defense are the biggest stories heading into this game...
