Looks like a thinner, more athletic Braman. Give him a year on the psquad and a NFL strength program...

I don't think Braman is as athletically gifted as Jefferson but Jefferson could find a home on the PS. If he finds any success in the pre-season then he's as good as gone if we don't sign him to the 53 man roster.

Teams know that the Texans are a breeding ground for solid players.

Yea, and it's getting tougher and tougher to keep them.

My thoughts on Jefferson are the same. PS for a year while he develops and gains strength. Then see if he can make the team next year. It's one of the keys for good teams to stay good. Keep finding the "diamonds in the rough" and develop them as solid role players or starters to replace the injured or FA's.

It's really more about the build, than the weight. at 6'5" I don't think 255lbs would suffice. He'd still "look" extremely undersized (Sam Montgomery is 6-3 262 lbs).

Kiwanuka is 6-5 & plays OLB for the Giants in their 4-3

He was about 255 when drafted, now he's about 267. IMO he'd serve better as an undersized pass rushing specialist out of a 4-3. Same thing with this guy, if he's as athletic as they're saying I'd rather see him come off the bench relieving Jj Watt as the 5 tech, or the at least play the 5 tech in passing situations.

Manny Lawson is also 6'5" 240lbs, he played OLB for the 49ers & the Bengals. Next year he'll be playing opposite Mario Williams again (he & Mario were drafted out of NCState in 2006)

So what do I know?

Hopefully we can stash him on the PS. Last year we had 2 or 3 of our PS players get signed to a different team's active roster.

If he plays well in the preseason we either need to let him go or sign him.

You don't see many guys his size (apparently up from 240 now) catching the ball up close like Watt does. If he takes a few lessons from Watt's book about swatting the ball up the air i'm sure he'll start catching them more effectively. (Has been doing it since college just like Watt)

Players like that, you gotta keep an eye on.

Too bad our mid-round Draft picks aren't as good as our undrafted rookie FA signings especially at LB, because so far Trevardo Williams & Montgomery have been as disappointing as "Too-Sweet" has been an unexpectedly pleasant surprise.

If he gets a lot of reps at OLB (which it sounds like he will) if he performs well at all, it's either 53 man roster, mystery "injury" straight to IR, or he's going to be gone.

I don't think PS is even an option for him right now.

At 6'5", he should be kept on the roster to block field goals.

You guys know I don't watch college football, so I really have no knowledge of he new players coming in. I happen to be watching the HoF game tonight & I see this kid, Dion Jordan.

6'6" 248lbs playing DE for the Miami Dolphins. I thought, "hmm" I also would have thought he was too lanky to play DE, especially against the run. But the Dolphins thought enough of this guy to draft him 3rd overall.

Similar size to Willie Jefferson.

Some of us in the college FB and mock draft forum liked him very much, but we all believed that he will be long gone by the time the Texans pick; we didn't have any problem with his weight.

Surprisingly enough, Jefferson looks more athletic than Dion Jordan. Both struggle vs. the Run, but Jordan is probably better in coverage.

Man I wanted Jordan. He would have been nice in this defense.

But now that TK mentions it, I think wj might be a close replica, probably a better pass rusher though.

I've seen Willie play quite a bit in person when I went to watch my brothers games. The guy was a monster off the edge. A monster. Now, he wasn't going against top level comp, but I know what I see. Quick off the snap, uses his arms well, and uses his athleticism well. Some guys are workout athletes and it doesn't translate to the field...not with Jefferson. He stood out. His size and ability was very noticeable.

I'm excited to see him. It's crazy having seen him up there at SFA and then he's playing for the Texans. I hope he makes the team, but he's going to have to play well...we'll see!

If Wade sees Willie-J as his WOLb, he won't be dropping into coverage much. Think Damarcus Ware dropping into coverage only 6 times in a season.
