Thanks for video Em. Although DJ is showing a lots of promise at OTA and mini camp, I too have a concern at safety position as we are not sure when healthy Reed will be ready to play for us.

Also Keo hasn't really developed well during his brief plays at safety. I expect Eddie Pleasant to pass him on the depth chart but us to carry 5 Safeties and continue to let Keo play STs and stay as further safety insurance. Either that or we cut him for Pleasant but keep his number on hand just in case.

All in all very accurate portrayal. I think you were a little too optimistic about the ILBs. Even with Cushing back we still have questions. Cushings return from injury, if we move Brooks inside can he adjust quick enough without becoming a liability, Sharpton is injury prone, and Dobbins is Dobbins, just serviceable

Good video, Em. My only real disagreement is that our right side of the O-line is a SERIOUS question mark and is a far more pressing issue than our #2 RB spot.

Thanks Gang! From what I hear is that (albeit mini-camp) Hopkins is looking pretty good.

I'm in agreement with Em on the #2 RB spot. And my issue is mainly with Tate. When Tate has been healthy he has played well. But in three seasons, he's been game-ready healthy only about half that time. I think one of these youngsters can push for his spot if he pulls up lame at anytime during the season. Maybe it's just me but I think Kubiak's patience with him is at a very low level. I'm not predicting anything but if Smithiak got offered a 3rd or 4th for him I would not be surprised if they pulled the trigger.

Oh and I think two of your keys are correct; I'd list them this way
1. Schaub must take his game to a higher level. Not Brady/Brees/Rodgers elite but at least to the Eli/Rothelisberger level. They don't always put up eye-popping, fantasy level stats but they tend to make the big plays when the bright lights are on.

2. You're on point about maintaining the high level the defense played at last year (with a couple of notable exceptions). Like Schaub, they can't have lapses like they did against Rodgers and Brady last year. Oh and some quality sacks from someone not named J.J. or Ninja would be sweet too.

3. And I agree with 281, solid play from the O-line, particularly the right side is a must.

all in all though, good job.

I'm curious to see what you had to say about the Colts' upcoming season. Please post a link to that video if you don't mind.

Thanks Obiwan! The bolded is a big key..at time you felt like everybody upfront was just 'watching' Watt work.

really hit it EM. schaub is the key, like obsiwan said schaub doesnt need to be manning or brady, he just needs to be ben or eli down the stretch. hopkins is sounding a lot like watt (called "unblockable" in his first training camp) or even andre johnson from reports so far - a rookie that is so clearly something more. this i think is going to be what takes schaub from "meh" to great. we've relied too much on scheme and heavy packages and scrub 5-wr sets to throw the ball because we havent had that second legit target to open the playbook or let schaub improvise.

the only concern on defense i have is that middle linebacker position. we're still cushing and a bunch of 3rd tier guys. our front is stacked with watt and smith and an excess of depth. i know it's foolish to expect much from rookies, but i think it'll be shocking the work our OLB's do this season. reed and montgomery are prototypical heavies, while mercilus and williams are pure specialists. i also love our secondary despite other peoples' concerns at safety. manning is good, swearinger is capable of doing the heavy lifting, and reed can be eased into the playoffs and bigger games as our centerfielder - with keo and pleasant filling in where needed. reed alone fills maybe the biggest hole we had on defense last season - a kryptonite for elite quarterbacks.

on offense the concerns are health and the right side of the offensive line. brooks looks incredibly promising, but the right tackle position is still up in the air. runningback doesnt worry me, provided our front is working as it should - we truly are a plug and play system if the line is capable.

That's a very good observation right there! How big of a loss do you think Casey will be to the offense?

Keo has always been slow and mad in coverage, one reason why i couldnt understand the choice to keep Keo over Troy Nolan who while playing safety looked more than competent to handle the position.

none at all, fullback got a big upgrade this offseason with jones replacing casey. we didnt use casey as much more than a blocker (a role he's not really suited for) so we're not losing anything major in the pass game, while getting a true bruiser in the run game.

Pretty solid review. Only glaring mistake is that Tate ran for 1k in his second season, not his rookie season.
