I agree with him and I think it is pretty evident.

They got a starter at guard and at center. Warmack was the #2 guard prospect, but really was rated more like 1b by most experts. Schwenke was a top 3 center prospect by many of the experts.

Hunter has the ability to be a dynamic wide receiver. He does have some question marks, but the Titans look to be more dangerous with him on the roster.

I've seen quite a bit of Blidi Wreh-Wilson and I think he can probably compete for playing time at nickel in training camp. I don't know alot about Gooden, but I have read good things.

It's not the best draft of all time or anything, but it appears they had a pretty darn good draft.

Do you guys just not take into account the fact that the Titans were picking 10th? I mean really, what's there to like about getting an OG at 10th overall? I don't get it, Warmack will be a RG, which will help, but probably won't make much of an impact on the team as a whole. He's not a playmaker or a gamechanger, so it's a very meh pick to me.

Hunter might be really good, but Locker is the one that will need to get him the ball. If they had a better QB, I would be concerned, but right now he doesn't scare me. If they get a Boyd or Bridgewater next year, I'll be more concerned.

A nickel CB with their 3rd? They didn't need a nickel CB, they needed a #2 CB to start opposite McCourty and challenge Verner. Their defense gave up the most points in the league last year, and they didn't do much to fix that. They will still be outscored by a touchdown on average next year.

The third best center in the draft? I mean c'mon, that's such a relative term to sell that as an improvement. Sounds more like Titans marketing rather than sound reasoning. The Cowboys got the consensus #1 center in the draft, do you really expect them to turn it around next year?

The rest of these guys are just depth, which is expected, but nothing in this draft makes me think the Titans will be any more than a 5-7 win team next year. Probably less if they get beat early, so they can get an upgrade at QB.

I guess it just depends on how important you view the offensive guard position. I think in the past, rookie salaries kept teams from taking positions like offensive guard in the top 10. Not so much anymore. It's well worth it to take a guy that is projected to be a very safe pick and an instant upgrade along the offensive line in the top 10, even at offensive guard now.

I think Warmack could easily be a game changer for them in not only the running game, but in the passing game.

That's not really sound logic either. The same could be said about Andre Johnson. It's not like we had a QB that was worthy of throwing him balls at the time, and it doesn't make the pick bad by any means. The Titans can't control what QBs are available via the draft. They improved their offensive line and gave him another weapon to help him develop. Locker is still a young player.

Corners, like wide receivers, usually don't have great rookie years. It's a transition process for corners to not use their hands so much, as we have seen with our own players. This guy has the potential to be a starter pretty early on in his career. To get a guy that you feel comfortable with playing nickelback in TC in the 3rd round is great, in my opinion.

Well, many people thought Schwenke was the best center prospect and the Titans got him in the 4th round. The Cowboys drafted the #1 center prospect (universally viewed as a third rounder) in the first round.

I don't really look at drafts for what they do for the team next year, but rather what it means for 4 years. I think they got 2 starting offensive linemen that are projected to be good players, a corner that could develop into a starter by end of his rookie year potentially. A wide receiver that could develop into a top 10 or 15 receiver in the league.

It's hard to grade any draft, because it is all about projections. Nobody claims to know what is going to happen in the future, we can only go off of the information that is available today. Seems like a good draft to me.

Having said that, the Titans will most definitely be better next year on offense. With these 2 rookies and the addition of Levitre, their running game is going to be alot more dangerous. That's great for them, because they need to put CJ's talents to use before he moves on.

I'm not saying they had a great draft, or it was a good pick... only that there's reason to believe their OL will play better in 2013.

Yeah... that's what concerns me. If their O-line is better, then just maybe Locker won't be running scared and will actually hit some of these WRs they've collected over the past few drafts. It also means there's chance that Johnson returns to near CJ2K form.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Titans contend for 2nd place (behind us) in the division.

Tennessee has to tighten up on defense before they can think about contending for anything. The Titans gave up over 30 points in 6 of the first 7 games of 2012. And gave up 50 burgers twice after. Until that turns around, that team is looking at another top 10 pick.

Jacksonville didn't take another punter, but I thought taking 5 DBs in their 8 draft selections was odd. I like what the Colts are doing. Building both lines, they're just continuing to lay bricks for their foundation. I think 2012 was an aberration, as they are more an 8-8 team. But, the Colts are doing things the right way.

That's what I was talking about. I wouldn't be surprised if the Titans nudged up and the Colts slipped back. Both teams ending up in the 6-10 to 8-8 range. Both scrambling for 2nd place in the division.

Of course, I reserve the right to "adjust" this prediction as preseason unfolds.

Don't sleep on Titans 5th round pick Lavar Edwards. He sat behind Montgomery and Wingo, but that guy has one hell of a get off. That was a 5th round steal. I had totally forgotten they had drafted him.

Tacks had an awsome draft.

Jags had a very solid draft

Texans had a very solid draft.

Colts were avg at best. Although if Boyett can stay healthy and plays to his abilities the Colts draft would have to be graded as atleast a B. I like the Werner/Thorton picks alot.

BTW, how many times have the Texans beaten the Colts in Indy? I reserve my judgement of how great the Texans are doing at anything until this happens.

I pretty much agree with everything you've posted, but I'd add that right now another wild card to be resolved is their QB situation. As opposed to Gabbert - who I give next to no chance to ever be a decent starting NFL QB - I think the jury's still out on Locker, and he could go either way. The good news about that (from a Texans standpoint) is that if he's not the guy, it could take a couple more years for the Titans to throw in the towel. The bad news is that I still think he has a shot at becoming what they drafted him to be.

I realize this isn't exactly a unique insight, but I believe we've got one more season as the clear favorite to win the AFC South, and in 2014, it's gonna be a battle with Indy. Tennessee might not be far behind, and as it stands right now, there's no reason to think J'ville will be in the picture any time in the near future.

Absolutely. My concern with the Texans is not winning the division, but matching up with the Pats and the Broncos in the playoffs. The Texans need to improve on both sides of the ball (and special teams, too), to challenge these teams.

Adding Levitre to go with Warmack and my #1 rated C Schwenke, with Munchack and Matthews teaching them = Locker showing much improvement. Roos is a Pro Bowl level LT and Stewart is a solind RT but is coming off injury.

All in all it looks like a solid OL and adding a playmaker like Hunter to a finally healthy Britt and Kendal Wright means CJ is going to have huge yr. They've added blocking and speed to the roster. That's a lethal combination. Adding a very underrated Edwards to their DL rotation added to an already great draft. IMHO

I don't think the Colts are going anywhere.

I think Luck is going to be better this upcoming year. Teams with playmakers like that at the QB position usually don't usually miss the play offs.

Just from what I know about Andrew Luck, he's working his ass off and watching tons of film trying to better. I think if you're expecting the same Luck from last year you're kidding yourself. Expect a more poised, less mistake prone, still just as capable of making great plays QB.

For that reason alone, I don't see the Titans nor Jags being on the Colts level.

Colts draft was kind of meh to me, but I still expect them to be competing with us rather than the doldrums of the division.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Titans contend for 2nd place (behind us) in the division.
I hate to say it because I loved watching him as a player, but Mike Munchak has legitimate problems getting the Titans up to play opponents. I have seen them come out "flat" and just straight up sloppy more often than not. I don't know if it's X's and O's/playcalling or if it's player motivation that are his bugaboo's but he just looks overmatched on most Sundays. Kinda sucks, I know boo Titans and all that, but Mike Munchak was a childhood hero of mine, and he's really not a guy that runs his mouth too much so I don't have to hate him.

Default Re: AFC South 2013 Draft

I really liked what the Jaguars did. Denard Robinson could be a poor man's Tavon Austin. Josh Evans good value in 6th.

Titans close behind. Finally addressed the o-line.

Colts, not so much. Thornton was unimpressive to me. Really a one man draft, imo.
