I'm predicting a 60 catch, 800 yard, 6 TD rookie season for Hopkins.

Do you really think we'll use Keo as the backup KR/PR with Bonner on the roster? I have my doubts.

I guess it depends on if he shows that he has the ability and ball security in camp. But I agree, that it could be Bonner. If Bonner is good enough we can nickname him the red-rocket when we play in battle red.

I immediately regret that "joke."

The main reason I think we keep 2 FB's is Special Teams, but if Clutts is not much on STs, then they'll probably go with only one. Most positions that aren't a starter hinge on how well they play STs, and most NFL FB's, if not all, have to play STs. For most it's half their value to the team.

Default Re: Post Draft Roster

I'm taking a shot at this... along with some explanations.

OFFENSE (25)

QB: Matt Schaub, TJ Yates - I think we still go with only two on the active roster, with Case in PS

RB: Arian Foster, Ben Tate, UDFA - sorry, I don't know enough about the UDFA RB's to take a guess

FB: Greg Jones - Clutts is a bubble guy that will have to show up in STs

WR: Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, Keshawn Martin, Lestar Jean, Alan Bonner - biggest question is who will be cut to make room for Posey when he returns? Jean or Bonner?

TE: Owen Daniels, Garrett Graham, Ryan Griffin, Phillip Supernaw - Supernaw makes the squad for his ST contributions

OT: Duane Brown, Derek Newton, Ryan Harris, Brennan Williams, Andrew Gardner - with the Newton injury, and youth of Williams, I believe we go 5 deep at OT. Quessenberry & Mondek are on PS

OG: Wade Smith, Brandon Brooks, Cody White - Texans are high on Cody White and don't want to risk losing him on PS

C: Chris Myers, Ben Jones - of course, Jones will be in competition for the starting RG spot

DEFENSE (25)

DE: JJ Watt, Antonio Smith, Tim Jamison, Jared Crick - pretty easy

NT: Earl Mitchell, Chris Jones - lets pray Chris Jones is better than we think

OLB: Brooks Reed, Whitney Mercilus, Bryan Braman, Sam Montgomery, Trevardo Williams - Trevardo makes the roster due to his ST play, and Reed stays at OLB

ILB: Brian Cushing, Tim Dobbins, Darryl Sharpton, FA - I still expect a FA to be signed here

CB: Jonathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Brice McCain, Brandon Harris, Roc Carmichael - Roc is a bubble guy I think will barely make the squad

S: Ed Reed, Danieal Manning, DJ Swearinger, Shiloh Keo, Eddie Pleasant - sorry guys, Keo will be on the roster again. coaches like him for some reason?

SPECIAL TEAMS (3)

K: Randy Bullock

P: Shane Lechler

LS: Jon Weeks

KR: Danieal Manning - going a bit out of the limb here, but does the drafting of Swearinger give us this luxury? a shame to have such a gifted returner not put to use

PR: Keshawn Martin - will be in a battle with Bonner for this spot

I think Quessenberry would be snatched up if we tried to send him to the PS. Don't see that happening. Somebody's getting cut or we'll find a way to stash one on the IR like we seem to do with a mystery injury every year.

Again, our ILB situation is clearly the weakest on the team. I still think it's plausible Trevardo might be moved inside...who knows, but something's got to be done

I think that's about right. Maybe they are thinking Keenum will impress someone this offseason & won't make it to the PS, but still not "Good enough" to dedicate a roster spot to. Then Klien would make the PS & he'll have been with the team since rookie camp.

McGee, the only way I see him sticking with the team, is if he beats out Yates.

Agree about Quess.
I don't think Gardner and White are locks.
Will the Texans carry 4 TEs? I don't know.
Supernaw or any other TE would have to impress the heck out of Kubiak for that to happen.
I think there's a chance that we carry six receivers instead;
Maybe a veteran move to solidify the WR corp before the season starts - I surely hope so.

Well, we know it won't include Rashad Butler

Quote:
The Cleveland Browns have signed free agent offensive lineman Rashad Butler to a one-year contract.

Butler spent the past six seasons with the Texans. He was on injured reserve all of 2012 with a triceps injury, and he played in just two games in 2011 because of an elbow injury.

Yeah, I tend to agree about Quessenberry. I'd be too worried that someone would snatch him up. Still surprised he was there in the 6th round though I do wonder if maybe he was overvalued by the Texans (and me too). Time will tell.

As for moving Trevardo to ILB, I had the same thoughts after we drafted him since he is somewhat small (6'1" 240 lbs) for an OLB in a 3-4. But, he's so fast I think the Texans will keep him at OLB to utilize his speed. They may fill the ILB spot with a FA like Dansby (Who will be out of their price range.) or Larry Grant from the 49ers. They also could stick with what they have in the UDFA bunch. Who knows, they may find a gem.

Here's a link to an article I saw on NFL.com about Dansby; http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...texans-falcons

Well, at least our cap space is more than the Falcons, but those four losers simply have too much.

The probability of signing Dansby is low, but it's not impossible to make it work.

Default Re: Post Draft Roster

Quote:
Offense (24)
Quarterback: Matt Schaub, T.J. Yates, Case Keenum
...

Runningback: Arian Foster, Ben Tate, Cierre Wood

The Texans go with Cierre Wood here to replace Ben Tate in 2014. Wood has been a good addition to the team at a bargain basement price via the free agent market. Considered a draftable Wood has shown some positive signs to make a good start to a career in Houston. There is still preseason games to be played, but Wood has a strangle hold on the 3rd running back spot.

Fullback: Greg Jones

Most underrated signing for the Texans this off-season, Jones will make a big difference for this offense.

Tight End: Owen Daniels, Garrett Graham, Ryan Griffin

The youth of the Texans at the position are in place with Garrett Graham and Ryan Griffin. Owen Daniels is still a top offensive weapon for the Texans and this year could be a big season for the 8 year veteran, and possibly one of his last.

Wide Receiver: Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, Keshawn Martin, Lestar Jean, Alan Bonner

The strongest wide receiving group top to bottom the Texans have ever assembled and this is without the injured DeVier Posey. With the addition of DeAndre Hopkins the combinations the Texans can put on the field personnel wise will be fun to watch for the upcoming season. Rookie wide receiver Alan Bonner and second year Keshawn Martin are two to watch for the offense, both have shown some signs of making the offense more explosive.

Offensive Tackles: Duane Brown, Derek Newton, David Quessenberry, Brennan Williams

Derek Newton and rookie Brennan Williams should both be healthy during training camp and ease some minds on the right tackle situation. If they are not healthy or have a set back, expect the Texans to keep Ryan Harris and use rookie David Quessenberry at right tackle to fill the void. If both Newton and Williams can remain healthy expect a rotation at right tackle for the second season in a row.

Offensive Guards: Wade Smith, Ben Jones, Brandon Brooks, Cody White
...

Center: Chris Myers

Still one of the best in the business, and this season should be no different.

PUP: DeVier Posey
...

Defense (26)
Defensive End: J.J. Watt, Antonio Smith, Jared Crick, Tim Jamison, Delano Johnson
...

Nose Tackle: Earl Mitchell, Terrell McClain

Terrell McClain looks good in in the small sample size and has the versatility to also help at defensive end. He looks exactly like what the defense looks for in nose tackles, a quick 300 lbs. body that can play low. Right now he has the edge heading into training camp over drafted rookie Chris Jones and second year player David Hunter.

Outside Linebacker: Brooks Reed, Whitney Mercilus, Bryan Braman, Sam Montgomery, Trevardo Williams

A new look position group that is much faster than last year’s group. Brooks Reed needs to stay on the edge for the Texans to give the defense an edge presence that knows how to play the run. Reed will also have the versatility to be used on the inside if needed. The defense will be much faster on the field with Whitney Mericlus, Sam Montgomery and Trevardo Williams. This will be a new trait that the defense did not have last season with starters Connor Barwin and Reed.

Inside Linebackers: Brian Cushing, Darryl Sharpton, Tim Dobbins, Cameron Collins
...

Cornerback: Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Brice McCain, Brandon Harris, Roc Carmichael, A.J. Bouye

The deepest position group for the Texans and they are a seasoned group. Very little turnover is expected from last season, just expect the addition of another young player in A.J. Bouye. Bouye has been impressive for the Texans in the early part of the off-season and he will have time to develop behind the veteran group.

Safety: Ed Reed, Danieal Manning, D.J. Swearinger, Shiloh Keo
...

Specialty (3)
Kicker: Randy Bullock
Punter: Shane Lechler
Long Snapper: Jon Weeks

Runningback: Arian Foster, Ben Tate, Cierre Wood

The Texans go with Cierre Wood here to replace Ben Tate in 2014. Wood has been a good addition to the team at a bargain basement price via the free agent market. Considered a draftable Wood has shown some positive signs to make a good start to a career in Houston. There is still preseason games to be played, but Wood has a strangle hold on the 3rd running back spot.
What makes him so certain? While it's entirely possible that I missed some news, I don't recall seeing anything that said any of the current RB UDFAs were head & shoulders above the others such that they had a "stranglehold" on the #3 RB spot.

Hes not, the blogger is just making a prediction. I think he's way off on Ryan Harris not making this team. Probably the opening day starter @RT.

I am big fan of Cierre and mocked him but I would not be surprised if he is on PS. If Tate is healthy, he should be a great #2.
