why don't they try a db/kr draft pick . . . he'd have a better chance of staying on the team and on the field . . .

That's what I'm thinking.

Reading the stuff Vinny posted, looks like the kids got a lot of heart. May be our DeSean Jackson.

“It feels like a dream about to come true,” Bonner said this week. “I wasn’t a highly recruited player out of high school. There was a lot of things I had to work on. I think with the season I had this year and being at those All-Star Games and being at the [NFL] Combine and Pro Days, I was able to get some exposure.”

We could use a DeSean Jackson.

This pick surely sounds like we drafted him because he was someones best friends son. Like Kubiak did when he drafted Casey Studdard, or the Colorado St. players.

The Cincinnati Bengals are among the teams keeping a watchful eye on Jacksonville State wide receiver Alan Bonner during today’s drills. Bonner has made a good impression during his team interviews. One scout described him as cool and unflappable in pressure situations with Percy Harvin-type ability. Bonner could boost his draft stock with a good time in the 40-yard dash.

My theory:

We watched Ryan Swope go off the board at overall pick 174 (Round 6), and while the Browns were picking at 175...we worked a trade and moved up and grabbed Quessenberry at pick 176.

That is, unless our move up to 176 was made way earlier than during the Browns' pick at 175 (I wasn't watching the draft at all, so I don't know how it went down).

I just find it curious that Swope goes off the board and we're suddenly drafting two spots later. As if we lost a guy we were targeting and decided we better get Quessenberry in case somebody grabbed him before we could. Wouldn't want to lose TWO guys you had targeted but who went earlier than you anticipated.

Maybe this Alan Bonner guy was our Plan B for not getting Swope. I think Swope is a Wes Welker type of guy, even though there's some concussion concerns there. Compared to Swope, I think Bonner is a JAG, IMO. Everyone has something nice to say about everyone...so this whole "he's unflappable" stuff? Meh. Hope he does well, blah blah blah, but I don't think he'll be a superstar. Hope I'm wrong, though.

If we really wanted Swope we would've drafted him in the 5th. People need to get off of that. Ithink its foolish to even make that assumption.

Does this pick remind anyone of David Anderson? Boy he sure does to me. Even the measurables (IIRC) are similar.

And I think that's probably this kid's upside. Nothing special in any one area, but always in the right spots and makes a play here or there. Someone that can hang around a bit as the last WR spot guy, be a spot duty returner, do everything the coach asks of him and be teacher's pet. That's best case imho.

Worst case, he gets a drink of water in camp. Everyone realizes he is in over his head, and the guy is working at State Farm selling you auto insurance by September.
