Default Winding up for the draft

While I think there is 90% chance Texans will trade down from# 27, this mock is pick'em only.

1. WR: Da'Rick Rogers 6'2 1/2" 217.7 4.44 (combine 2nd attempt) 39" vert. arms 32 3/4 hands 9 1/2 top 5 in cones. OK, forget the weed for a minute and name one player still available that could give us what AJ does (Patterson, Allen and Hopkins gone on my board)? None. Rogers can go deep, slant, outside, inside and is superstrong. Gives Schaub the perfect weapon. Now to the Maryjuwanna: he admitted to the dope and has allegedly passed many screens at Tech. Has been compared to Julio Jones. I think Texan will go for him if he has tested clean & nothing came out during combine.

2. NT: Brandon Williams this one concerns me because my spidy antennae say Phillips will not draft NT until much later (or sign a cheap vet) to back Mitchell.

3 a. S: TJ McDonald replace Reed in 2 years. An in the box shut down the run guy who covers better than Pollard.

3b Slot: Stedman Bailey I know many will argue but Rogers replaces Walter, Posey should miss most of season, Jean need to be outstanding or will be cut by game one and Martin, well he better hope he has job as returner. We did carry extra WR when Holiday was a return man. Bailey is perfect slot but has played all and catches everything thrown near him. The OTC cold charge in Jan will not effect him. Long arms & 34.5 vert.

4. OLB: Chase Thomas
5. ILB: A J Klein ranked #170
6a TE Michael Williams
6b. FB Zach Line tremendous stats that might allow Tate to move on.
7b RB Cierre Wood even if I have to PS.

Good players BB. Maybe it's time to take the kiddie gloves off if they pass the pee test & seem contrite about mistakes prove they've changed?

However with depth @ WR position why not another badboy in first to address middle of the defense. Starts with O ends with E

JMO:

1. Rogers, I like the player and he has done everything right since getting the boot from Tenn.. I think he should be on the Texans big board. He's not my choice in the 1st but he is a good pick.

2. B. Williams, I like the player but feel this is a round to early for a guy coming from D2. Of course it only takes one crazy GM to get infatuated with numbers. I've got him in the 3rd. Again he's not my choice here but he has potential to be a good player.

3. McDonald, is Bernard Pollard v. 2.0, he might cover a little better than Pollard but not much.

4. Thomas, he's got great size but should move inside to ILB, to slow for NFL OLB. I think we can do better at OLB in the 4th.

5. Klein, love this pick if still available.

6. Williams, you know I love this pick.

6b. Line, ehhhhh not the player I'd choose here but not bad either, fills a need at FB. Nice pick.

7. Wood, very small hands worries me for a RB. That ball gets hit alot, small hands has a hard time holding onto it.

I like all of the players (more or less) but I also think a few of them are rated a tad high (but I guess that made the mock more realistic.)

I'll do an avatar bet on the Texans not taking Rogers. No freaking way they take him with even their 2nd round pick. Not happening. For someone who has followed the Texans closely, I would think that you would realize that.

I would rather see us go with a top NT in the first and then go WR in the second. Hopefully Hopkins falls there. In the 3rd I would replace Bailey with Stills (OK)and in the 5th I would replace Klien with Williams ILB Florida St. But that is nit picking and having said that, this is the best mock draft I have seen PERIOD this offseason.

Chrome shut down as I was responding and Windows had to reboot twice...anywho thanks to all for comments. Yeah, BL Ogletree would be great--if there but most have him gone. Wolfe Brandon is ranked 97 now and could be there but issue is I really like him to fill a big need that also allows me to go lower for an ILB. Not ready to chance that. With our corners now is the time to shut down the middle and I think Texans signing Reed supports my position to go with TJ. Also handling TEs have been an issue and TJ would eliminate that.

Chase Thomas could play inside increasing value but 28 career sacks with 8 last season says enough for me. His read/react and instincts are what I want. His nonstop motor keeps him in the play even if blocked. 14.5 TFLs! Read this link Jan 23 notes about Texans meeting with him at Senior Bowl and what the south's team coach said.

I know the Texans met Thomas.
I like how he plays the game, but I'm a little worried about him in coverage.
He might be a liability there at the next level.
He's smart and he uses his hands very well and he understands leverage and positioning and all; and he understand the game, what to look for against certain formation.

On a college team, he's great.
In the NFL, on a team that play man coverage, I'm a little uneasy with him as a starter.

Late 4th round is a fair slot for him, I imagine.
