Default Help Me Get Over Tavon Austin

i know the texans probably wont take him. but i really likethis kid. hes so explosive. im thinking he can be electric and can just imagine him shredding any man coverage in the slot. i know hes short.but i just keep thinking about wes welker making it in the nfl.
give me some reasons why this kid wont make it in the nfl.
it just seems like the perfect match for the texans in rd1.

As far as the Wes Welker comments go, remember Welker was signed as an undrafted free agent by San Diego. He didn't make the team his sophomore season & was picked up by the Dolphins. He was in Miami for three years, was very productive but still allowed to leave. He lead the Patriots in receptions three times.... but still his value to the team is in question. What Welker has, you can't see. There have been many players in the league with his body type & measurables.... But only one Welker.

As far as Tavon Austin goes, I guarantee you he is not the next Welker.

To get over him, you should visit all the draft threads & all the draft sites. You should be able to fall in love with at least a dozen players or so, increasing the odds that the Texans will draft one of your guys.

I don't think it's a lock, but yeah, somebody will probably take him ahead of us.

Good. I'm counting on Keenan Allen falling to us.

This is my hope/thinking too! A lot will ride on Allen's personal Pro-Day that's scheduled on April 9th I think. If he runs fast (4.3-4.4 range) he's probably gone before #27. If he's slower (4.5 range) and does well in the field drills and workouts he might fall to #27. I'm sure there will be a lot of coaches and scouts there to check him out.

Ok, I will give it a shot.

He is very undersized. He is only 5'9 which is tiny for an NFL receiver. As a result he may have injury concerns. He will have to play the slot and those are the places WRs get and take the biggest hits. He may take a hard shot or two and it may knock him out for a few games. He is very thin. He is not very strong and unable to fight off the stronger ILBs and safetys. He likely will not be as good as he was in college. In college he routinely played against inferior opponents where a quick juke can lead to big time yards. In the NFL where the defenders are bigger, stronger, and faster it won't be as easy for him to do that.

Allen is never known to be a speedster.
His speed out of HS was recorded by Scouts Inc. at 4.57 at some 5-10lbs lighter.
He said he's never been timed afterward so I really don't know how fast he can run the forty. (Especially with the knee injury and the hamstring issue.)

He's a strider, what they say, who builds up speed.
All I know is that he plays fast.

What makes him good is his movement and body control skills.
I've seen him juking Trufant out of his socks, and Trufant showed the best feet and agility at the Senior Bowl practices and in the drills at the combine.

Allen doesn't just have a double move, he has a triple move.
He has moves like a shifty RB or point guard and is very smooth doing it.

He runs corner-post-corner routes and post-corner-post routes better than any receiver I've seen in quite a while.

And then you look at his size and arms (32-3/4) and hands (10").

I'm counting on Austin to make it in the NFL, but as a GM, I think I will just play the odd and stay away from him in the first round.
