He may not want to leave them, but he hasn't signed with them yet either. This is more about money than staying in Baltimore. He thinks he's worth more than he is at this stage in his career, and if he keeps insisting on 7 million, it's going to backfire on him something drastic. If I'm Rick, I'd bump the offer to 5 mil, but no more than that. If he keeps taking his time, I'd pull it and look elsewhere. No one has any time for this.

I'm just ready for this to be over!!

Reed just needs to announce where he is going so we can all move on to yelling about the draft!!

Why in the world would you compete w/ yourself? It's obvious Reed is not getting anything better then what the Texans are offering, so why up it? If he was getting something better, especially from the Ravens, chances are he would've signed or his contact w/ the Texans would be limited or over. If I was Rick I would stand pat & even might up the anty at this point by putting a deadline on the deal. Right now Reed is stringing the Texans along as other players are being signed away & creating a bigger upper hand for Reed against the Texans. Take it or leave it By a certain time & move on so the Texans can at least explore other options & get a worthy alternative IMO. At this point Reed's intentions are suspect & in the end the Texans could be stuck w/ a player who doesn't help this team.

Houston's offer was competitive. That's why no other teams have swooped in to top it.

A guy like Reed is going to need a little time to mentally adjust to the fact that he is no longer worth what he once was. It's a reality check on the ego, and it's also why McNair and Smith utilized the private jet. It's a gesture that says, "We really want you here, so no disrespect intended by this offer that is based on market value."

Reed will be ready to sign when he comes to terms with his declined value, which may not even happen until he watches his former team start working out other safety FA's.

He isn't worth what he made last season. You don't see Ozzie offering what he got last year either. Ed clearly thinks much more highly of himself than NFL teams do. The guy is past his prime. I hope he eventually signs a 1 year contract in Baltimore and retires.

He's asking for $7 million per year? No way. If Rick Smith signs him for that amount then he deserves to be put on the hot seat.

May be the most attractive, but doesn't mean he will sign it. Lets not forget that Asomugha, by his own admission, left the most attractive deal on the table to sign w/ the Eagles whom he thought had a better chance to win it all. Who says Reed won't do the same to stay w/ the only team he has known as a pro. I believe it's time to put Reed's feet to fire & do what's best for the Texans before they are left w/ scraps.

Another team offered Asomugha more than $60 million?

It would make sense that Smith knew what the Ravens were willing to pay before he made his offer. The meeting was: "Here's what we think of you, here's how you fit what we do, here's what we're willing to pay you." It wasn't part of a multi bid process. It was one shot. Smith does not make that shot unless he knows what cards the other players are holding.

It's been discussed on here recently & links were provided where Asomugha was quoted as saying he left more money on the table from another team, rumored to have possibly been the Texans, to sign w/ the Eagles because he felt they could win it all. Hardly new news there.

As far as Smith knowing what the Ravens are doing...I have my doubts on that. Smith may know their salary cap issues & could speculate what they are willing to offer, but I doubt he knows how much a team values each player. It's seems obvious Reed is still trying to get more players involved & he still isn't getting what he wants so I believe all it takes is slight bump up by the Ravens & he is back home IMO. Time will tell, but the more time that is wasted leads to a higher probability that the Texans will be left w/ very limited alternatives if Reed chooses to stay a Raven. It's time to move on real soon IMO.

I'm pretty amazed that we have spent so much time and ink on this thread. I believe most of us doubted this would be a deal that could get done when we heard about it. And now that things have transpired the way they have it looks more and more like this was yet one more Texans pipe dream. Should be no surprise or disappointment we have seen this scenerio played out at least two or three times before. Reed is not coming here.

Reed just wants the ravens to stroke his ego. He will take less money to return to the ravens when its all said and Done. He has ratbird DNA embedded in him!

Dude, we are not even close to Moulds thread territory. Not to mention the Nnamdi Asomugha thread from a couple years back.

I'm still upset that I had to learn to spell Nnamdi Asomugha....
