I also think the Niners made a big mistake, one that will come back to bite them in the posterior! Maybe they plan to pick up someone in FA, or someone who gets the boot, like Sanchez or Tebow. Who knows. Time will tell, but, I don't think the Niners will repeat the run they had in 2012. JMO also!!
I'm saying that Smith is a good qb and seems to be underrated by many.

It was never going to happen. He had legitimate trade value that Carr did not.

In two years with a good coaching staff and team in place, he was a winner and effective. Teams can want an elite QB.. It doesn't mean they are available.

I except Smith to have a very good career. Not only is he a talented QB who has played well the past few seasons... Now he has a chip on his shoulder. Chiefs are now the team to beat in the West for the next 4 or 5 years. If Andy Reid isn't burned out, I expect Smith to rank among the top 10 QBs in the NFL yearly. If I were a Chief's fan, I would be overjoyed right now!
He will be good and improve under Reid. I dont know about top 10, but this will be Smith's chance to throw the ball 30-35 times a game in Reid's offense. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does.

Wow that's a steep price for a guy that would likely have been cut. I think the chiefs overpaid but if he turns out to be good then good for kc. I don't put it all on smith for being inconsistent since he's had way too many offensive coordinators prior to the harbaugh era.

Sounds about right to me. It's a market driven price. If you don't have a QB you will over pay for a guy who is an upgrade to what you have. Smith can play in a wco. Reid will have tons of 3-5 step drops and the Chiefs have a good running game. He doesn't need a big arm in this system and is athletic enough to scamper when needed. When you can't get ideal, you get real. I think they figured they could stay with the status quo and have another year of bad quarterbacking, bring in a rookie and take another year of beatings and rookie mistakes, or trade for Smith and quite possibly contend for the playoffs next season. The Chiefs have quite a bit of talent...they just need a QB. Smith is their Schaub.

Chiefs lost HARD here.

In no way do you trade a 2nd for this dude. I couldn't do it. Seems like a massive reach for a quick fix that AIN'T about to happen. They are about to win the West? Get a wild card? "Oh, we got a vet, so we won't lose more than 9 games!" Congrats, Kansas City.

I think for the Niners you risk gambling Kapernick misses time because well...it's going to be #33 on a team loaded with talent. I don't see how you don't make that trade if you're SF. It's not like Smith's skillset is irreplaceable. They can get a journeyman QB.
I have to imagine there were other teams interested in Alex Smith. We may never know it, but I'm sure the Chiefs have their own guys sitting around thinking about what's available at 33 compared to the value of an Alex Smith.

I honestly don't see a whole lot of difference between KC & the Houston Texans. They look like they've got all the pieces needed to be a winning club, but they've underachieved for one reason or another.

I think it will be very interesting to see what happens there after changing QB & HC & GM again.

Should've have looked to see if the 'Hawks were willing to shop Matt Flynn. Flynn's got more upside than Alex Smith. Conversely, with Smith, at least you know what you're paying for.

I'm sort of in the Vinny camp here. I think if anything, the Chiefs got the better end of the deal in terms of value.

Starting quality QB's don't grow on trees. They have a certain value. I think the Chiefs ultimately are declared the victors in this trade.

I also don't get the AS hate in here. Sure, he isn't Tom Brady. Name a QB that is readily available via any method that is better today than Alex Smith is?

He has actually made me a believer and I think Reid has his starter for the next 5-8 yrs and he can win with him. Like Schaub, he is a piece not a franchise QB. But all in all, I like this and the Chiefs just became a contender in my eyes.
