Flacco is a JERK! Asks teammates to cheat on last play of the SB

NFL Films' "Sound FX" program caught the drama for posterity.

"Are we gonna win this?" Flacco asked Ravens head coach John Harbaugh from the sideline.

"Yeah -- the game's over if we cover this kick," Harbaugh responded.

"We don't make it easy, do we?" Flacco posited.

"No, we don't," Harbaugh said.

"If he starts to break it, go tackle him," Flacco then said to Pitta.

"Really?"

"I don't know ... I mean ... what else can they ... they might be able to give them a touchdown on that? I don't know," Flacco told Pitta.

Flacco, flush with enthusiasm over his new tackling tactic, then went around and tried to get other teammates on his side.

"Hey! If he breaks this ... if he busts it for some reason? Tackle him! Go tackle him," Flacco said to guard Marshal Yanda and center Matt Birk. "I don't know what the rule is on that, but..."

"Why don't you?" Yanda asked.

"I'm going to!"

Real upstanding guy right there!
Definitely MVP caliber ethics.

The SB MVP asking his teammates to come off the bench and flagrantly foul a member of the opposing team--even saying that he himself was going to do it, just for the win. Even contemplating the legality of the action.

You play to win the game.

Again, he is not talking about injuring someone, just taking a penalty. It's no different than taking a delay of game penalty to allow more room for a punt, or to kill the clock.

And it would have been funny had he done it, then the refs award the 49ers the TD anyway.

When Referee determines a palpably unfair act deprived a team of a touchdown. (Example: Player comes off bench and tackles runner apparently en route to touchdown.)

I really wish he would have tackled the breakaway ball carrier. Then he would have PROVEN to the entire WORLD he is a moron, because only that type of person would think that A) tackling from the sideline was a loophole in the rules and B) if it was, we wouldn't see it all the time on kickoff returns for a touchdown.

I saw another article where the choices were a) award the TD or b) spot foul and a free play...FG attempt. I don't mind that he was thinking ahead and doing anything to win. People calling him a moron I guarantee had to look up the rule and are just bitter. Why be so angry about a guy who had a great run and who was trying to secure a victory. What? Again, taking 5 seconds to think about it, if tackling from the sideline could give a competative advantage, like possibly getting a penalty and forcing them to kick or drive the ball, don't you think teams would have taken advantage of it by now??
