middle linebacker Bart Scott, starting outside linebacker Calvin Pace, and offensive tackle Jason Smith. Before the cuts become official, the Jets are projected to be $23 million over the projected 2013 cap, but these cuts would save them $27.7 million.

Jason Smith is interesting. I realize he's busted out of two teams. But Smith fits the Texans profile in that he's a good athlete and an ex-TE. I just wonder if he would improve under a new scheme and scenery?

Being a former #2 overall and from Baylor I am sure he is on the Texans radar good or bad.

I'd look at Bart Scott. Not an everydown MLB anymore, but could be good depth. Plus he'd bring some mote attitude and toughness to the defense.

I agree. If the price is right, the Texans could always use another MLB, and the dude certainly brings a fire in his passion for the game.

The prognosis is generally pretty good as far as the ability to return to action, but it's relatively poor in the sense that you never really cure the condition. Essentially this becomes an arthritic condition. The longer the player is in the league, the greater the chances are that he will progress his arthritis, which means he becomes more susceptible to more arthritis, more bone spurs, repeat injury and so on. Some players can finish out their careers half way decently. Others end up like Deion Sanders. But the need for surgery is not what you want to hear. Prior to injury, Scott had a streak of 119 straight games. He only missed the one game, but he finished with an eight-year low in tackles (60) and was definitely not an impact player for the Jets in 2012. He did say that he would take a "pay cut" before the Jets released him, but I would say that it should have to be a significant one for the Texans to even consider him.......especially as a 2 down backup. |

He would give us the same thing that Brady james did this year if not less. I don't care about fire and leadership, when the play has been minimally productive and slow in league of youth and speed.

I do want to see more fire and leadership from someone not named Brian Cushing, though. I dig JJ Watt, but he's not the Ray Lewis kind of motivator that Cushing appears to be. I saw a noticeable difference in attitude from our defense after Cushing went down. |

Let's talk about these two. Although I think our staff believes in developing the young guys we have, I do believe with Quin looking at FA this might be a good look for us.
TE J. Baker, correct me if I'm wrong, is a better blocking TE than what we possibly have on the roster. |
