Curley Culp Made the HOF!

This is how I remembered him while growing up in KC. There, he earned the nickname "The Stump." Back then 265 pounds (Oilers playing weight) was huge.......and with KC, he played at 280.

There's now 7 players, an owner and a coach in the HoF from the team that won Super Bowl IV. Pretty stout if you ask me.

Depends on the criteria. Played more games for the Oilers than anyone (Houston - 92, KC - 69, Det - 5), but started out with and won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs.

Pro Football HoF doesn't designate a team like Baseball does anyway.

Edit: Played 82 games for KC - not 69.

Culp played his first six years with the Chiefs the next six with the Oilers.

He made the Pro Bowl once with the Chiefs, and six times with the Oilers (4 times as first teamer, and twice as second teamer.)

He's an Oiler Pro Bowler and HOF.
The Chiefs got squat for not bringing him back, whatever the reason was.

Culp was not released by the Chiefs.......he decided to sign with the new World Football League. From there, he like many others that went to that league were almost treated like traitors and scabs since they tried to sign and play for both leagues. So when the new league dissolved, the Chiefs who still carried rights to him, traded him to the Oilers for John Matuszack (DE-DT 6-8 272 lbs 1st pick of the 1973 NFL Draft)who also left the Oilers when he wasn't allowed to play for the WFL. (FYI for the HOUSTON TEXANS) and the NFL. Court injunctions disallowed these dual league playings.

Most people don't know that Culp (a 2nd round pick by Denver) was virtually given to KC by Denver because in his rookie training camp, Denver grew totally frustrated in their attempt to switch him to offense, a move they were forcing since they considered him too big for a DT/DE/LB.

I've mentioned a few times that Culp and Brazille should be in the HOF around here...outstanding players and I'm happy as hell that Culp made it. Dr Doom went to the Pro Bowl 7 times was named ALL PRO 5 straight years and was AFC Rookie of the year his first year. Dr Doom belongs too.

Let me say something good about John McClain. He has done an outstanding job in advocating ex-Oilers for the HOF. First Elvin Bethea, and now Culp. I expect Brazile to be his next project. McClain has pull in that room, and I think he will get the votes for Brazile, one year.

I've thought about that, and then I always get stuck on why Brazile isn't in yet. If we assume he's going to start lobbying for Brazile, why did he save him for last?

True. He also strongly advocates for Bud Adams to be in the HOF.
