doesent it seem just like the team refuse to make big changes its the same with the city. refusing to get the ball rolling on the astrodome and the surrounding area . is that why we never even get a look to host a Superbowl
and is it just me or is there some underhand deal with new orleans or something why do they always get Superbowls all the time and Houston gets nothing ..????? |

New Orleans is a city geared for a big party...Houston is big spread out and ugly.

Wouldn't it be cool if they turn the Astro dome into a huge indoor parking garage, with bars & clubs for people to hang out during game time? Kind of airportish... you could have bars, clubs, coffee shops, restaurants, gear shops, etc... then you could have an underground tunnel with a conveyor.... heck, it could be an above ground bridge/conveyor (like an airport) connecting the two buildings.
The shops & clubs & what not would be for the people who enjoy the game day atmosphere, but don't want to pay to attend the game, kinda like tailgaters.

Turn the Dome into a supersize strip club and casino and we'll get Super Bowls. Citizens don't want Super Bowls that badly.

Downtown New Orleans has ~50,000 hotel rooms. Their Super Bowl visitors don't need to find accommodations under a nearby bridge in order to be close to the venue.

While we are a less sexy city than a party town like New Orleans or South Beach, Miami (obviously), we're doing okay. We'll have a third....... soon (and by soon, I mean within about 10 years or so).

The biggest complaint they brought up about Houston was it is too spread out. One guy said the parties and events were too far from each other. New Orleans is perfect because people can walk to all of the parties and events and don't have to worry about driving or grabbing a cab. The Tampa Bay area supposedly has more strip clubs than any other NFL city and that is why it's a popular SB city. |

New Orleans is pretty ugly too .... Just not in the area around their stadium.

Last time I was in NOLA, about 2 yrs ago, the area around the stadium was awful. Maybe they've cleaned it up some more by now. Personally, I detest New Orleans, but, I'm going this weekend to hopefully celebrate a NINER SB win!! My TEXANS let me down, but, my second fav team is still kickin!! Should be a fun trip!

So basically we just need to turn the Astrodome into one giant topless bar with a lot of rental rooms, not that there's anything wrong with that.

We're never going to be on the same boat as Miami, New Orleans, and LA as for as hosting Super Bowls. They're great cities for hosting large events like the Super Bowl. Not that Houston isn't, but we're not on the same level as they are. I'm sure we'll get one before 2020, and maybe once a decade or every 15 years which isn't so bad.

They're putting a new video board (the biggest in the NFL, if I'm correct) in to raise their chances of getting Super Bowl 51. This has been no secret. I don't think that constitutes as refusing to do anything. C'mon Norg.... Also, I don't know what our metro rail was like when the last Super Bowl was played here, but now people could easily stay in downtown Houston, and take the light rail to Reliant. The stadium may not be near the downtown, but it isn't hard or out of the way to make it there for visitors.

My plumber gave me a PVC cutting tool that looks like pliers but with two thin blades in place of the gripper clamps that you see on pliers. You clamp down on the PVC, it locks in place, then you spin it around the pipe and it slices it through. He told me the thugs in New Orleans use those. They knock people out cold, then use those to cut OFF the ring finger so they can get the ring and run off as quick as possible. My wife had to be there for business conference, her and her co-workers walked out the front door of the hotel and turned to the right...the doorman said "Hey, where you going?" She replied "Going sight-seeing!" And the doorman said, "Not that way you're not. Go this way over here, and be back before dark. You go the way you're going and you won't be coming back." Who the hell wants to travel to a place like that? No thanks. LOL.

Houston put on a great SB. Bars aplenty. Midtown is fun right outside downtown.
The issue that causes problems is convenience for those staying here. When the SB was here you had guys...higher end media people...staying out near Sugarland, others out West. They then all had to fight traffic to converge downtown. It just isn't good for having that many people in one centralized place. Other cities can handle it and are built for it. It's sad to say but the SB is about marketing and headlines. You get media, celebs, etc coming into your city. It sounds dumb but when Diddy is having is SB party at I-10 and the Beltway, it doesn't draw attention. We don't care about that but some do. Miami, San Diego, LA, New Orleans...all have built advantages. People want to go there to start.
