And Al Davis was an innovator when he still had a majority of his marbles together. People get old and he's become more of a tinkerer the older he gets, which has led to some terribly done player and coaching acquisitios.

Several of the the great teams of legendary status have returned to their glory days including Green Bay, Pittsburgh, the NY Giants, and just lately the 49ers but where's the Cowboys ? Back in the pack with the likes of the Dolphins & Raiders and that's not a positive comparison.
