Since the drafted him, they've got a new owner, new GM, and they will have a new head coach (actually their second new HC since drafting him). There's nobody left who's got one speck of loyalty to Gabbert, and I expect him to be a benchwarmer - if not gone altogether - next season. Even if that just means Chad Henne as the starter (and it probably does for one year anyway), I think Gabbert's pretty much finished in Jacksonville.

The one (and only) thing the Jags got lucky about is the year they drafted him. If it had been one year earlier, or if the rookie salary cap hadn't been implemented, they'd probably be financially forced to give him another year or two. As it is, there will be some dead money if they choose to get rid of him, but given where I think the Jags are relative to the expected 2013 cap, nothing that will keep them getting rid of him altogether if that's the direction they choose to go.

I just looked at Gabbert's game logs and in two seasons it looks like he's had one game where you could say maybe he looked alright. He was 27-38 for 220 yards and 2 TD and 2 INTs in a loss against Detroit this season. That his best looking game as a pro came when he also through 2 INTs says something about his skills as an NFL QB.
He hasn't had one game where he threw for over 200 yards and a 60% completion without throwing an INT.

Gabbert has good potential, but he has to be kept clean to realize it. As soon as the pressure gets close, he panics. That can be difficult to coach out of a QB.

The Jags have David Carrbage syndrome.

How many Jags could play for the Texans? Their young WRs, Posluszny, their kickers? Maybe the least talented team in the NFL. Good luck to the lucky coach taking this job.

Well, after only one really bad season Mularky is gone. ... I was hoping for at least him to finish out the contract, specially if he wanted to move the franchise to LA.
Shouldn't have taken a a genius to realize Henne, while not anywhere near a pro-bowler was light years ahead a better QB. To help em out... I'll send them a 6th rounder for Posluszny, we could use some ILB help. |

Wow, do you realize the Jags played the hardest/tuffest schedule this season? How easy you forget Mojo. Funny to think the Jags almost beat the Patriots, while you guys got spanked on primetime. Snagglepuss is gone, both Gene Smith and Mike Mularkey...along w/Plain Garbage.
