Jim Schwartz took over that team in 2009. They finished 2-14. In 2010 they finished 6-10. 2011, 10-6 one & done in the play-offs, knocked out by the New Orleans Saints.

Currently they are 4-10. They most recently lost to the Arizona Cardinals, 38-10 ARI

Nick Fairly is having a great season. Suh, though not recording the stats, is still a force to deal with. CJ is having a great season. Stafford.... eh...

If you were the man in charge, are you happy with the development of your team?

If so, why?

If not, what would you do to fix it?

I think they play dumb like a young team with no composure which they basically are. I think that they've made a lot of stupid mistakes this year and left more than a few wins on the field. They have reached the stage where they are basically a big pile of talent with no focus or ability to withstand adversity. Schwartz is their Jerry Glanville. He'll be there a little longer and he'll eventually leave town hated for all his faults. He'll teach them to win but they'll always be a bit fragile and easily knocked out of their game under him. They need a different kind of coach and another year or two of experience to reach consistent success.

This is one case where the team is definitely a reflection of the city it's in.

10-6 in 2011 was imo a fluke. 5 wins were 1 score or less. I believe 2-3 wins were literally last second toss ups to Calvin Johnson in the endzone for the win. Just like the Texans are closer to 10-4 this year than 13-1, the Lions in 2011 were closer to 5-11 than 11-5.

I don't follow other NFL teams much but I think Detroit needs a coach like Kubiak that will bring them together and calm them. Work with Stafford and thereby increase confidence and swagger of WRs. They should use their top 10 pick wisely this draft.

Its definitely a reflection of coaching and also the fact that they put little to no importance on character when drafting.

Exactly. The way this season has gone for them is a perfect example of how a lack of discipline can affect a team.

They had a tougher schedule this yr and injuries/stupidity hurt their secondary.

First and foremost they need to improvement to the interior OL.

And add a couple of S. IMHO

Basically, they turned into the Titans. Jim Schwartz brought the dirty attitude and play with him from Tennessee. People have said that Detroit should rein in Suh and get him to calm down. My reply to that is: Why would they? He's playing like they WANT him to play. Like a dirty punk-ass.

Like the Titans of a few years ago, when Detroit players get frustrated in a game, they start hitting, kicking and stomping.

Also, back when the Lions President was arrested for drunk driving, I told a friend, "They better fire that guy. If they don't, that sends a terrible message."

They didn't. And what followed was a long list of arrests, many of which occurred.

I'm from Michigan, and was really rooting for them to have a winning football team again because the people there deserve it. But, having seen them become Titans North, I now cheer every time they lose.

Again: I disagree. Schwartz brought that attitude from Nashville, which is a cool town, and that attitude and legacy originally came from Houston, which is also, as we know, not a thug city.

Too many emotionally unstable players on D and a coach that teaches them to be fake tough guys. That D is like the bully on the playground. As soon as someone says enough with the cheap shots and knocks them on their ass they disappear.
