When we got another block in the back penalty on MOnday I laughed and said "There it is!"
Sad.. |

Heh-funny Porky. I was actually going to post yesterday that it is amazing that we get a new player (Routt) and the first play he makes for us is a block in the back on special teams. Go Marciano go!

Ya, it's kind of ridiculous. I know it seems to happen across the league and maybe it's just me..and it would take some real analysis, but it sure seems like the Texans commit that penalty more than anyone else in the NFL. I honestly don't know how you can't tell the difference between someone's front and someone's back. It seems rather fundamental, and if I was coach, I think I would start benching or releasing people to make a point - but I guess not.
I hate to say it because on a personal level I really like Coach Joe M, but the guy has been a total failure this year. It's time for a new ST coach.

All I can say after every one of theses repeated boneheaded plays is, "Fu@king special teams!!!" Never fails. They're the Bad News Bears of the Texans.

I think that may very well be the source of the problem right there. "This is a back"
He should go on & explain they should never "block in the back" He may have to demonstrate what block is, then a block in the back. He needs to make sure they not only understand the terminology, but also the practical application.

He should duct-tape their arms to their sides.
So they can't even raise their hands more than an inch from their waist line. Make those dumbasses, and yes they ARE dumbness if they think a ref will let them get away with a clear block in the back on a punt or kick return, make those dumbasses run down the field with their arms tied to their sides for every single practice until they can have it cut loose and it's now instinct to not use your hands. Frankly, they would do better if they just went all out on a punt block and let Martin freestyle it or call a fair catch. Starting at our own 10 is not helping us at all. I used to not get pissed off about this topic, but the loss has made me say ENOUGH. If his job is to make sure they don't make bad mistakes, what is he DOING each week to correct it? Not much, obviously.

I started a thread in January 2012 talking about this problem from last year, and no one took it seriously. I don't think that many people notice the block in the back penalties.

If you're that easily aroused by a woman's back, you have some issues!

Might be some fun issues to have, though.

Speaking of backs....
How about that PI called on Manning when Welker ran directly into his back? On a ball another 3-5 yards away when the defender has a right to the ball as well? That was like the worst PI call in the history of PI. |

NE got away with some too. I remember Carmichael getting up and complaining about it.
Holding and block in the back happens every kickoff/punt. It's whether you're subtle enough with it. |

I have a better idea. How about actually not doing it, and instead get better athletes, a better blocking scheme or whatever it takes!
