The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly are planning to sign free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress, according to a source with knowledge of the contract situation.

The injury-riddled Steelers are in need of a receiver with Antonio Brown out with a high-ankle sprain and Jerricho Cotchery banged up after a hard hit in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Burress was a Pittsburgh first-round draft pick in 2000 and left as a free agent in 2004.

The Steelers plan to sign quarterback Brian Hoyer, a source close to the player told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Tomlin had earlier confirmed the team worked out passers Mike Kafka and Hoyer, along with wideouts Plaxico Burress and Derrick Williams.

Glad I sat Mike Wallace and Heath Miller two weeks ago.

Wallace had ZERO points and Miller had like 5 I think. Big Ben getting hurt makes it automatic to shut down ANY of the Steelers players you have on a FF team. It's science.
