Texans special teams: What is fixable, not fixable

cribbs would certainly make a lot of sense. kubiak wants as much help as he can get from the special teams, and he absolutely loves versatility in players. cribbs could be the KR/PR, gunner, 3rd RB and 4th or 5th WR all in one roster spot.

I would do that deal. Cribbs as a returner/slot receiver could really help this team.

Remember, the Texans will get an extra 4 compensatory draft picks in 2013, for losing Williams, Brisiel, Dreessen, and Allen. Now, these picks cannot be dealt. But, that will give the Texans a total of 11 picks in the 2013 draft. 11 rookies won't make this team next year. They can afford to deal a mid round pick, or 2. And Cribbs would be worth that investment.

It's just plain cruel to plant that seed in the mind of Texans' fans. You all know that won't happen. What do you think Cribbs will command when this current contract expires?? He won't re-sign for cheap.

Why does that matter? The Texas are trying to win this year, and Cribbs could turn a couple of weaknesses into strengths. Renting a player makes sense if that player can help you get to the Super Bowl.

Every team has to make do with backups on special teams. Besides, Manning is 30 years old, and his best returns are well behind him. Special teams is about taking lemons and making lemonade.

first off thats not totally true. some teams like seattle play alot of starters on ST's.

next, the comparisons with smith & bush are off because marciano isnt a first timer. hes an experienced co-ordinator and has coached many successful ST units. his comparison should be closer to wade's imo than smith/bush

imo ST's is more about player execution than offence or defence. apart from the odd fake etc, whats the difference between 99% of ST and coaches gameplans? even a complete novice could copy the most successful ST coaches and get their guys to drop the same depth etc on kicks and punts but it wont matter if the player isnt able to beat his man and get there

I find it difficult to believe that our ST has the 31st poorest player personel fielded in the entire NFL.
