NEW ORLEANS — Television viewers from across the nation Saturday night can see the NFL’s most fearsome team, one that creates more overtime for trainers in opposing locker rooms than any other. It’s an intimidating team fantasy players love to hate because they never know when one of their stars is going to leave the field prematurely.

We’re not talking about the New Orleans Saints. We’re talking about the Texans.

The Saints, who host the Texans on Saturday at the Superdome in a preseason game, have become the NFL’s most notorious team because of their alleged bounty program.

Yet, there were 24 teams last season that caused more serious injuries than the Saints.

By Edgeworth’s calculations, the Saints were almost saintly. The Texans? You don’t want to mess with the Texans.

When considering all injuries, including minor ones that sideline a player for fewer than eight days, 13 teams injured more opponents than the Texans last season. It should not shock you Oakland was at the top of the list.

But when considering more serious injuries, the Texans were No. 1.

When I shared these statistics after a Texans workout this week, one reaction was surprise. The Texans have had a reputation as soft.

Interesting "stats." Expect the talking heads to counter that either the Texans were still as soft as billed, or the dirtiest of all teams. But we fans know the real truth................the other 31 teams were just

Interesting article but we all know that stats can be easily manipulated to mean anything you want them to. If a player blows out a knee, like Wes Welker a few years ago, when no one touches him but it happens against the Texans are we still to blame?

Buncha hooey.

I contacted Edgeworth and obtained the details of the major and moderate injuries attributed to the Texans and sure enough, more than 1/3 of the major injuries (6 of 17, or 35%) "caused" by the Texans were non-contact injuries (various strains and sprains) suffered by opponent's special teams players while covering punts and kickoffs.

Let me stress again the term, "non contact." That means a Texans player didn't touch them...
