Just read this on ESPN. 25 years old and fell from 5th level to ground. Prayers to his family and loved ones.

I heard about this and prayed that it wasn't anyone I knew. Each time I've ever attended a game the escalators messed with my head. I just don't like them and the thought of falling freaked me out. I thought it was just an irrational fear. My condolences to that poor man's family.

I may just be a callus *******, but I have no idea how you can be that tramatized by someone's death that you didn't know....that you're just now getting over it a year later. Neither event was like the World Trade Center attack where thousands died in one event. That was a shocker and people took it personal. These events were no different than what goes on every single day throughout the world.

Thinking back to the many times I have been on these very same escalators, they are all within building code requirements and have yellow warning labels on them cautioning people on proper use.

To fall off of an escalator requires a lot of effort. There will be lawyers involved however.

Very sad for the young man and his family. I hope they are able to find peace.

I know you're an architect and I'm not disputing your words or expertise at all. Just saying that building code doesn't factor in certain things and is not an automatic conclusion that it is safe. Not a lot of effort required for disaster in a place where they sell alcohol and have tons of people around. Roughhousing in a joyous stadium can easily been done. That being said... I don't see how the Texans will overreact to this. More safety barriers is always a good thing.

The callousness in this thread is par the course for the human race. Ship happens.

The guy is at peace but his family is not. It does require a lot of effort to fall off a escalator.

I am probably in the minority and I do feel sorry for the family...but I don't feel the least bit of concern about this bozo. If you stand on 610 in rush hour and get run over, am I supposed to feel sorry for you?

I've long been advocating a stamp on your hand or something every time you buy a beer. Limit it to one beer per half. That's plenty enough to get your buzz on without getting sloppy drunk. Sorry, but too many people are drinking like crazy, then the game ends, and they are out on the streets ready to kill someone. It also leads to disorderly conduct at the games. The Texans and all other NFL teams are nothing but hypocrites who talk out of both sides of their mouth because they make a ton of money off of beer. They say one thing, but do another.

And yes that means you cannot buy two beers and say one is for your buddy/wife - he or she needs to get her butt to the stand herself and buy one if they want one. Granted, there can be some cheating (go with me and then give me your beer) but that will cut WAY down on obnoxious and dangerous behavior leading to the death of themselves or others.

I think what you're asking is unproductive. Most of the drunkness that I see comes from the tailgates. Nobody (as well as I) wants that taken away. You can't regulate what someone drinks before they come in the stadium and by then the alcohol has taken full effect.

Good point. I guess the only thing that could be done is to set a rule on how much can be brought in and then have each car/truck searched and that's too much Orwellian stuff for me. I still think limiting the amount bought at the stadium will help though.

Well, they can through public intoxication laws. But obviously the last thing the Texans want to do is piss off a customer base and potentially hurt a major revenue stream in alcohol sales.

They could make the entire facility a dry zone for all I care, but full discloser, I no longer drink booze.

Also what you call callousness I call reality and this doesn't have anything to do with some negative reflection on the human race. In my line of work I have to deal with cases like this all the time, sorry if I'm not sensitive enough.

I feel bad for his family and that will be a horrible funeral.. a completely unneccesary funeral. It can't be easy to bury a son, because he was a idiot who tried to ride down a escalator rail. Again feel sorry for the family, but this guy did something incredibly stupid.. A thing that parents should tell their kids about so hopefully nobody repeats his lapse in judgement.
