Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was quick to defend the Bengals and their miniature Gatorade prohibition act. From a chat at Cincinnati.com:

I was told this morning about Johnathan's comments that were printed. It's my fault that I feel that a player doesn't need to take a dozen Gatorades home in his backpack each night and that we are paying him a salary. I'm sure that Johnathan would not have been one of the abusive players but it is my policy.

I really wish they would have used the whole quote instead of just talking about Gatorade.

If you have a person who is taking 12+ gatorades home a night then you address it with that person. Its all about feel and how a team manages its players. In any group of the workers feel like the managers are micromanaging or nitpicking it certainly makes for a negative workplace

Marvin Lewis in an NFLN article said he (Marvin Lewis) made that policy, not the owner.

His reasoning was that the guys are making enough scratch to afford their own Gatorade if they want to take some home. Marvin took a pot shot at J Jo, as well, and you can find the article if you want to find it.

This is a situation, IMO, where J Jo should have just left it alone and he should have just talked about the TEXANS. Bringing up isolated policy matters, to make a point, just rakes up cat **** and makes it stink the place up. Nobody wins those sorts of deals, IMO. We all get to smell the cat **** together. LOL.
