I just think it is a mistake to do trade him and am against it .........
This depends on

1. How you feel about the current WR corps. (I dont care for them much)
2. If you feel like Ward and Forsett could do the job if Foster went down. (I do feel like they could handle the job.)
3. If you want to trade Tate when his value is high.

I understand the other side of the coin and why people were against trading Tate. I just feel like WR2 is a more pressing problem than RB2.

It would take a proven, young, stud PLAYER for me to let Tate go. I didn't say pick. Tate is proven, not a gamble that could be a future bust. Now, if ya wanna start talkin' about pickS, like a Herschel walker thing, then we'll be glade to take your lunch and eat it.

Patriots drafting = Suck
I agree. Last few drafts hadn't worked out very well for them. But I'm thinking... Let's say, for whatever reason, Yates & Keenum don't look like the heir apparents we think they are next season, or the season after.

& a Jay Cutler drops out of the top ten, sitting there at 11.

It would be nice to have the capital to go up & get him, than having to give up your whole draft. If we have the same front office we've got now, we'll probably just miss out on the guy.

For all you Matt Schaub fans, I'm saying another 2 to 3 years of Schaub. We can't honestly expect much more than that can we? Not performing as he has or better, I don't think.

What kind of plus value did the Saints get for Sproles? Or Michael Turner?

A solid 2012 and Ben Tate will be PRIMED for trading after the season is over.

In fact, with Foster having just inked a nice big contract, meaning he's locked up for the next several years, I'm all for getting Ben the ball as much as we can.

I don't think any of us are under the illusion that we can afford everyone AND Ben Tate if he has a very solid 2012. In fact, the guy would deserve the chance to go and be a RB1 for somebody else anyways.

Here's to hoping we parlay something 1st round'ish out of Ben Tate after he helps us win a SB this year!

I think there will be a couple teams looking to score Tate from us next year, teams like the 49ers (Gore is old), Lions (no RBs), Steelers (Mendenhall is retarded and Redman is iffy), Bengals (young team needs a reliable RB), Packers (need a pass catching RB that can protect the QB), Giants (Bradshaw is quick, Tate could compliment him well), Broncos (McGahee is old) or even the Colts (do they have a RB?). Plenty of teams can use Tate, he's really versatile and shouldn't be pigeonholed into a specific scheme.

I think he will be quite appealing next year, and may be used in a multi-pick trade. We should have 4 comp picks coming our way, which gives us 11 going into the draft. Seems like a lot, so why not take Tate and a 4th and move into the mid-first? I would do that if the Bengals were offering as I don't expect them to make the playoffs.

Not to derail here but I'm thinking the Bengals are looking pretty good for this season. With the moves they've made and the Red Rifle in his 2nd year I think they're going to be competitive.

But then I thought my first wife was hot AND faithful, so what do I know?

Yeah, but the glaring hole in their offense right now is RB. They let Cedric Benson go, who was a workhorse for them, and I think he was more important than they realized. They had the money to keep him, but instead are just saving money before the 90% floor is implemented next year. BGE simply isn't an every-down RB, and I think they will be unpleasantly surprised next year to learn this the hard way. They will be hurting for a RB and Tate will probably be better than every RB in the draft besides Lattimore.

I also wouldn't put it past the Texans to use Tate and some picks (late 1st) to jump up into the top 5 and grab a QB if Schaub doesn't work out this year. Teams that are already invested in QBs already like the Dolphins, Rams and Raiders may be willing to drop 20 spots for Tate, a 1st and a 3rd.

The kid at Arkansas. Tyler Wilson.

Who wears....#8.

I like what I see of his footage. Natural passer. Led them to 11-2, had like 3,500'ish yards and 24 TDs despite having really inconsistent pass protection.

That's someone off the top of my head.

Coincidental article.

Should the Houston Texans Trade Ben Tate to San Diego Chargers?
Quote:
June 26, 2012 12:01 PM EDT

Few teams have a more talented roster than the Houston Texans but even then the team can't escape questions. With their hopes resting on a closing windows, should they find help by dealing Ben Tate to the San Diego Chargers?

Tate deal could help Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson

The Texans have the good fortune of two top flight running backs on their roster in stud Arian Foster and backup Ben Tate. It was them and a suffocating defense that got the team to the divisional playoff round with their third-string quarterback T.J. Yates. It's left Houston fans wondering what could have happened if starter Matt Schaub had stayed healthy and thrown passes to All-Pro Andre Johnson instead. Given how the team played against the Baltimore Ravens, fans can only grab their heads in disappointment. Anyone who has watched staples like Schaub and Johnson know the window on a Super Bowl can close as quickly as it opens. Both players are 30 or older but still hold the title of most important players on the team and that's because of their positions. The worse fact is the Houston Texans have lost much of their depth at quarterback and wide receiver from last year. The best way for them to get it back would take high draft picks. That could call for a sacrifice in a trade, and why having Tate is so important.

Chargers hope Ryan Mathews can recapture LaDainian Tomlinson magic

The last time the San Diego Chargers were Super Bowl favorites late in a season they still had LaDainian Tomlinson coming off an MVP season. Now the potential Hall of Fame running back retires leaving his old quarterback Philip Rivers to try to take what many think is a sinking team to the mountain top. One player experts and fans have their eyes on is Tomlinson's replacement, Ryan Mathews. Highly graded out of college Mathews hasn't hit the superstar level yet. He also has some fumbling problems that won't go away and with Mike Tolbert in Carolina the burden has gotten heavier for him. Rivers has played his best football with a good running game, something he didn't have much of last year. It's why fans have pushed GM A.J. Smith to find some help like free agent Cedric Benson or even a trade. That's where Ben Tate comes in. The Texans backup is eager to prove he can start for any team but with an All-Pro like Foster in front of him his best chance is to leave for another team. San Diego would fit perfectly as his size and strength would compliment the speed of Mathews. If the price weren't too high Houston also might get another high draft pick to find more young talent.

Ben Tate said he would stay patient with the Houston Texans but they might not do the same with him. As Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson grow older their title window closes. If the San Diego Chargers can offer a sweet deal to bring back some LaDainian Tomlinson magic, then it could and should happen.

Barkley is an option, Tyler Wilson, there's more than a few more who could move up that high if they declare for the draft but their names escape me. Aaron Murray (Georgia) is also a guy who could seemingly slip into the first. And Landry Jones may creep up that high (Although I want no part of him).

Yeah that's who I would target. Barkley will be the number 1 or 2 pick depending on who gets it, Wilson could be top 5 just because of the position. If he can be a franchise QB then it doesn't matter what spot, just get him.

No!!! Not no, but **** NO!!!! NOT this year, but you consider to this next year when our supposed "back-up" RB is very valuable to teams that know that Tate is a starting back. We "Texans Fans" love Tate but also realize he'll have a secondary role here behind "Namaste"....

Bitness aside, I would love to keep both these mofos together over the next few years....

I have no idea what that meant (I'm typing on a laptop, things come out different than you type them)......

I would love to re-sign Ben Tate beyond 2013.. If not, keep him this season as a breather, a "change of pace", a short down back, whatever!!!.......... Someone who can truly contribute in all of those regards!!

God forbid that something happens to AF, would trading away Ben Foster 2 years before his contract be worth it????

Let's have this conversation this time - next year, no?

I would love to re-sign Ben Tate beyond 2013.. If not, keep him this season as a breather, a "change of pace", a short down back, whatever!!!.......... Someone who can truly contribute in all of those regards!!

God forbid that something happens to AF, would trading away Ben Foster 2 years before his contract be worth it????

Let's have this conversation this time - next year, no?

Or if AF turns out to be too expensive, trade him for the farm and keep Tate, or if AF has a flat season, remember he was banged up and missed 3 games last year. We are one bad cut away from us needing a good RB again.
