Default Week 8 Quick Analysis

Offense: Improved a bit by passing more but I still see quite a few faults. A milford brown is commiting too many penalties. He will learn. B. David Carr - even when he has time in the pocket he scrambles. I'd like to see him stick more and attempt accurate passing on the run more often. Also Carr has yet to prove to me he can consitantly throw a deep ball accurately. He showed some real skill on the pass to JM however he only does that about 1/4 tries. He however did well looking for the open receiver and completing the short passes. I give respect to the guy because through what hes been through I would have quit. He needs to work on his audibles though.

Defense: Started slow. They really picked up 2nd half. Theres a few things that could be fixed/improved but overall I beleive we have a nice defense. If the learn to play together and continue this then they can become one of the better defenses in the league. I liked what I saw today and I hope we can keep it. Also we finally saw something from P-Buch

Special Teams: Very nice show put on by Mathis today. I however am not impressed. I saw this coming. Overall our special teams is doing well

Coaching: I saw alot of mistakes made by the coaches today but not like we've seen in the previous games. The D-Coach did a great play calling job today and pendry put one deep. I like that. I hope we can continue this trend. However alot of things still need to be done and I will stick with what I said when I saw our coaching staff needs to be removed in certain areas and replaced with more legit people.

Overall: First win is always the hardest but is the best feeling. Especially when your 0-6. I think we can win a few more this season if we play like we did. However I hope we still get a nice draft pick.

Great Game. Improvement is coming slowly but surely

(As for you people who will post in here. I'd love to get feedback/opinions but please do not rant or disrespect anyone elses posts in here. We all have a opinion and it should be respected) Thank -

Mathis is making a very big contribution on this ball club and probably represents a big part of the offensive improvement. His returns are giving us good field position and certainly his reception today was big. I've said for a long time he is in the mold of Bernard Berrian who Carr threw to at Fresno State. He has many of the same skills, including speed. Not a big receiver like AJ, but one who is capable of getting open because of his flat out speed. AJ is speedy, but I don't think he has the hands of Mathis. I will get ripped for that statement, but I firmly believe that is the case. AJ is really more like a TE. He is a physically rugged ball player who runs over people once he gets the ball. He's a very good blocker as well. That's why I would call him a TE/WR. He's really a high breed. He has taken a lot of abuse from the other team, because he was the only player they feared on this team. Now, it may become another story. The realy problem with our receivng core is Bradford. We should have kept a couple of the younger receivers or a person like Kasper who was a go to guy in the red zone. Instead we kept Bradford and Hollings. Armstrong has excellent hands, but does not get much playing time because of the coaching staff we have.

Some would say Cleveland is simply not a quality ball club. Did our O-line look better, because Cleveland's defensive line is bad? Let's see what happens next week, but at least we got off to a fast start for a change and we scored in the 1st qtr. I believe that was a 1st for us this year. I still think we have a lot more quality players on this ball club, than people think. Its just a matter of time and getting the right coaching to bring out the best on this ball club.

The Browns suck. I'm glad the Texans won, but that's just a fact. They beat a really bad team by 3 points today and they should've done that last year.

I guess that's about all I have to say about it since I've been pretty much drained of all concern for this season. I'm not even gonna bother to find out how many sacks Carr took from a really weak pass rush.

For those who mistakenly think that it's Carr's fault: Who cares?

Offense: OK we won, but we still have lots of problems. If we played any other team today besides the Vikings or Browns, we would lose. We are just too simplistic. But we all know this. I liked how for the first time in a long time we actually put the ball up. Carr was on today as I was starting to get worried that he was stuck in a funk. I am a Carr supporter but I do know he has a couple of flaws, getting rid of the ball is one of them. I wish he did more of that this game. So many trips to the redzone to come up empy in the TD department. Suffice it to say, Bradford days are numbered. Carr layed it well into Bradfords hands too many times for him to remain a starter when he doesn't come up with the ball. No recievers on this team fight for the ball. We need a Hines Ward with this team, Armstrong comes close, but I have no idea why this guy isn't starting. The oline was very good in pass protection today, but once again, it's the Browns. The showed that they are still inept with their sad display of a running game.

Defense:
I said it previously, but this was the game that they start to gel and nothing beats Babin and Walker on the left side, sorry to say. PBUc is still horrible. I know he got the game winning deflection, but please, if Dilfer lays that ball 1 more inch higher, Pbuc is lynched. He got burnt on that play and was lucky the ball was ever so slightly underthrown. I like the play of Orr and Polk, Polk is getting a good feel for the position. Greenwood is still getting lost on his assignments, but he should pick it up. Faggins will be a nickel back next year.

My quick analysis:

It only took Several HUGE turnovers, several HUGE KO returns, TWO shanked punts and a last-minute tipped pass by P-Buc to beat those powerhouse Browns by three points at home.

Even with every break going our way, we still didn't come close to looking like a real NFL team for 4 quarters.

I'll take the "W", but don't kid yourselves that we've turned any sort of "Corner" on this season.

Your analysis of Carr is way off base. You say that he makes poor audibles. As he has stated, he is only allowed to change plays to run from one side to the other. He can't audible to pass plays or change hot reads. Because of our poor blocking, we have to max protect which means you only have two receivers running routes. When you are so simple on offense, it's not going to be hard for the other team to shut you down. It also doesn't help when you have Cory Bradford dropping easy passes. I understand why he is on the field, but this has to be addressed after the season.

Until to O-Line gets better so we can use three receiver sets and get our tight ends running patterns in the middle of the field, we're not going to be a very productive offense. The only thing the team can do for the rest of the season is try to avoid mistakes on offense and hope the defense continues getting turnovers.

We not going to have much success this season and had better put heavy emphasis this off season on getting O-Line help. As soon as our offensive line can hold their own to give David long than 2 seconds to throw, we'll be able to get more receivers in the game and can open it up. David has the talent and ability to be a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback in this league but we have to get the o-line up to par.

I think our offense is truncated due to many reasons and Carr's lack of instinct and football savvy is part of why we run a short bus offense. It is a synergistic stew with many elements from the line, to the lack of a TE, to poor decision making by the QB. Carr used to have more leeway for audibles, but they took it away from him for a reason.

that's just homerism at it's finest. carr went 10-20 for a whopping 138 yards and 1td/1int. carr's still fleeing for no reason, and to the worst place possible - outside of wade. DD averaged a whole 3.3 yards per carry ... but most of that is the fault of the coaches insisting on running behind mckinney. on dd's longest run mckinney should've gotten called for a block in the back ... he started pushing hodgdon in the back (wasnt necessary, hodgdon had cleared his man out) which i couldnt help but laugh at. the playcalling was terrible as always. the browns' completely pathetic offense still pushed us around. we didnt use armstrong or mathis at all except for one passing play ... which wouldnt you know it ended up as a td.

as disaacks said, we got every possible break in the game and still nearly lost to a horrible team. that's not something i'm ready to jump up & down about. sorry to those looking for the silver lining, i'm content with being realistic.

The offense took more steps backwards again today. A total of 1 touchdown and less than 250 yards of total offense against one of the worst defenses in the league is not improvement.

Wonger the offense did not take a step backwards, It more or likely just stood in the same anemic place. A win is a Win though no matter how ugly. With the field posistion that we had all game we should have put up 40 on the Browns. Carr showed tremendous touch on his deep routes today. The pass to Armstrong, Bradford, Gaffney, Mathis. Other than a PI and A crappy receiver he would have been 4/5 on his deep routes. I still hate the offensive situational playcalling and our defensive playcalling is still to passive. We are at our best when being aggressive and that goes for both sides of the ball.

I would also like to point out that before the game DC and his receivers went Peyton Manning and came out early and went through all of the routes. It really showed in this game. Watch out Jacksonville we will have AJ, Mathis, and Gaffney ready to air it up.

IMO, the reason the run game was so pathetic in the first half was because we kept running that darn sweep. Maybe the coaches saw something on film they thought they could exploit, but it sure didn't work. Sweeps are too hard to execute properly in the NFL for all but the very best teams. Defensive players are too fast.

Yeah, I really dont see 'improvement.' We didnt play great, we won cause the Browns played worse. We only scored 2 more points then we did against Indy, got bogged down when we got close to the goal line, P-Burnt gets burned on that last play if it is Manning, McNair or Leftwich throwing the ball instead of Dilfer.

At least we have an electrifying return game. Our best offense may be giving the oppenents a FG so Mathis gets a KR.

And another thing: The Texans hit Mathis in the first quarter on a long pass for a TD and then Mathis did not see another deep ball the rest of the game...what is our coaching staff thinking???

Fiddy if you look at my posts I predicted what Mathis would be to us and the return game. I also happen to feel that he might be even better than AJ is in some respects. He is a very talented young man who was our find of the draft like DD was. Again I have also more or less predicted what our coaching staff would do. Yes, you are very right as to the dunder heads we have as a coaching staff. And I have often stated exactly what you said about the return game perhaps being our best offense.

Again, I think it shows the strengths and weaknesses of the coaching staff. I will say our staff blundered in TC when they made the WR cuts. Keeping Hollings and Bradford and cutting the receivers we did was an absolute blunder in my opinion. I'm certain many others feel the same way.

offense: i was impressed by the line, well as impressed as one can be, I didnt like Browns penalties but thas ok we can still get by. I liked that we threw some passes, some plays when Carr ran and got back to the line I think he made the right choice. Some plays it looked like if he tried to throw the ball he might have been hit mid-throw i couldnt see the rest of the field that i can say that he could have gotten rid of the ball sooner. i think he needs to work on his pocket presence but on some plays when he avoided the initial sacks i think it reminded me of rothlesberger (minus the pass at the end) but overall i think the offense needs to mix in a wider variety of plays i mean that draws davis took were huge gains and im confident if they played it a few more times we could have still done some damage. i still think the offense has a lot of untapped potential and i saw some flashes of the fulfillment of that potential this game the pass to mathis and gaffney were great the passes to the te and bradford were also good except for the drops and tips. i've seen some posts saying we got all the breaks but that pass interference that wasnt called near the end of the game on armstron i think hurt alot. had it been called we might have been on the 1yd line. who knows.
defense; it was good to see walker back on the line i think that improved the defense a lot because we were getting more pressure on the qb and the 2 turnovers were great. i think secondary coverage has been slowly improving i havent seen them get beat horribly like the first few games the play on bryant hurt when our players ran in2 each other but i think we can improve babin made some decent plays i think. i think that the defense can really improve this season i think they should run a few more blitzes but overall i think the d did an ok job this week.
while i do want to see the texans improve i think that the coaching staff needs to go and a #1 pick would really help. well those are just a few thoughts.
