Default PLEASE make this a sticky: Coaches fault for run audible, Not Carr's fault

I have seen some posters today (after the win against the Browns) use the obvious run audible by Carr as a way to slam Carr as if he doesn't know how to audible to anything else.

And while I have been one of Carr's biggest critics this season, I will not stoop to the level of letting posters try and hang this audible snafu on Carr. So for all the posters who do not know the true story behind this goofy run audible business, here ya' go:

In an interview, Carr says the coaches only let him audible a run play from the "designed side" it was meant to be ran to the other side of the line if he thinks the defense is keying on one side over the other.

In short: The coaches do not let Carr audible to plays that Carr thinks might work against a certain defensive scheme that David might find vulnerable.

I know. I know. This team's coaches are so brilliant that many of you think they would never telegraph this sort of audibling situation, but it's true: Our coaches and playcallers tie Carr's hands behind his back and ask Carr and his teammates to play Houdini all day (to escape certain death by one's own merits, in other words).

Why it's like this, I will never know. It's so opposite from what most NFL Qb's are not only CAPABLE of doing, but are also ALLOWED to do.

I believe Qb's have to be allowed to audible. They are the ones out there reading the defense. If the opposite D knows that if Carr audibles its a run, its gonna be stuffed every time.

Well I'm not sticking this thread, but it does bring up some valid questions.

Why doesn't the coaching staff have faith in Carr to make a change at the line? This isn't a recent development, it goes back to the Chris Palmer years. I don't remember Tony Banks getting much latitude with the plays back in '03, either.

Do the Texans have plays in their playbook that can beat a given defense? Can the coaching staff identify these plays and put them into the gameplan? Are they aware of the possibility that the opposing defenses may be "dekeing" the Texans into these checks? I mean if your average texan fan can guess what the call will be, don't you think the other team has a pretty good idea?

Finally, does any of this really matter in the long run? The Texans will have a new staff and a new offense in '05. Let's just grin & bear it.

Mostly comes from this staff and Cappers in particular, being a bunch of controll freaks that think the plan is the only thing and it's their plan or else. Bunch of Dang moroooons IMO.

Gee, now you know how the offense must feel about it. In my estimation, by Carr actually announcing this to the world, I think he was trying to embarrass the coaching staff into changing its practices. In the very least, he told every team in the league what we do so you'd hope that we would stop audibles all together. You know it's too much to ask that the coaches let Carr try changing into a play that would work.

Some coaches don't like quarterbacks audibling. I know that Parcells doesn't allow his quarterbacks to audible either.

Yeah, this is totally dumb. Any guy who watches the Texans knows that if Carr is doing an audible, they're going to run the ball. Usually withouth any success either since the defense knows what's coming. I'be never seen 1 play that said anything to the contrary. NOT ONE! It's better to not even audible at all. You might well just have Carr audible "Hey, I'm going to hand off to you Davis!"

David is just not the guy anymore. He's just going thru the motions out there and that's it.
If he was going to be great at one time, it's been kicked and punched out of him.

Every team in the league is given game tape of every team. The Texans audible "system" is common knowledge amongst the NFL.

Today Carr did audible to a Pass!!!!!!!!! We have been watching this for the past few games and the defenses knew this and when he would audible they bring their db's closer. We were shocked when it happened.

If it does then defenses are fools. EVERYBODY in section 520 knows it's run left. EVERY FREAKING TIME.

If its a pass then probably a pass audible is allowed. They are not letting Carr lead this team.

An audible and then a pass means: It was a pass play from the beginning.

I can't wait for a new coaching staff. Bring 'em in NOW.

I remember listening to Palmer in the past (on the radio) pointing out that Carr would change the pass plays going to AJ and check into plays that didn't work out, then at the end of the game AJ wouldn't see any targets because the defense would just dupe Carr into taking AJ out of the play so they wouldn't have to.

I think much of our limited offense is because Carr doesn't have much instinct for football. He is a prototype physical specimen but I don't think he has too much football savvy. I think a lot of our short bus offense is an effort to take the game out of Carr’s hands. The bottom line is we the fans aren't in the film room and don't really know who to blame....so it's just your guess (the forum...nobody in particular) and my guess when it comes to this topic.

I don't know why this topic should deserve a sticky GP. None of us know what is really behind the audible situation...it's all fan theory.
