I am not going to be negative I like the draft. The kicker might have been a bit of a reach but I believe if you like a player than you take him no matter what. Three linemen add very much needed depth and any of them may start. The two receivers taken mean that Jacoby is likely gone. A pass rusher who should hopefully replace Mario and not cost as much money as him. Now it is time to sign free agents and look forward to the season. The draft is a crap shoot and everyone has their favorite players but there is a reason we are here and the Texans staff is making the decisions. We will find out soon enough. Thoughts?

My thought is you said this 24 hours ago:
"I'll just wait to see them play." Kind of fun, huh?

I still feel that way but position wise it was good IMHO.

I think they did a great job. My only concern is CB -- I think we need more & better.
Impressed with the timing of 3rd round picks to still get Crick, and impressed with the timing of drafting the K as it started a string of them. |

Do not the players or where they were selected?

my thoughts ... i couldnt be more in love with our defensive front 7. i railed against letting all-pro mario williams get away, and was quietly saddened by losing probowl d-roy captain demeco ... and yet with bradie james, a healthy sharpton, an improving wildman braman, growing MISTER alexander, and now mercilus and crick joining ... we're even stronger than we were last year (when we had the #2 defense in the NFL). if we can stay even remotely healthy, that is an incredible bunch of blue collar 60 minute buttload of talent front 7. mcnair's wanted to emulate the steelers ... that's how you do it, and with a coach right with lebeau as the two premier defensive specialists in the past couple of decades.
i'm not so sure about the individual players drafted on offense by kubiak, but by position i dont think we could've nailed it any better. 3 offensive linemen and 2 wide receivers (plus fan favorite keenum already as UDFA) ... perfection. the one that's giving me tingles however is brandon brooks because some have already started comparisons to one of my favorite texans - charles spencer. spencer had hands that were insane, and one scouting report on brooks is "he can wall a defensive end with one hand while looking for someone else to block with the other". love the positions on offense, and that player particularly.

I have no problems with any of the other picks. I think we got a lot of good value and I think we improved our team.

Very happy with the draft. Especially 1st, 3rd-Brooks, 4th-Crick and 5th-K. I had looked at and targeted Mercilus, Brooks and Crick prior to the draft. However, I thought Mercilus would be gone between 15-20, Brooks could go in the 2nd and Crick in late 2nd or early 3rd. We needed a kicker and we got a home town boy--thought 5th was a RD early, but I was wrong. Very excited about those picks.
Ben Jones ain't pretty, but his attitude and effort remind me of Carl Mauck and he was a great leader on our Oilers years ago. Nick "Freight Train" Mondek's defensive line background and athletic ability are very intriguing. Great potential to develop into a RT for us and love the nickname! Initially, I was perplexed when we didn't select Rueben Randle, but Posey's athleticism, speed and skills appear to be superior--his Senior season issues seem to be key reason he dropped and was available. I'm hoping he's ready, along with LeStar Jean to challenge for #2 WR. Keshawn Martin is an exciting addition and appears to be our new PR/KR. Watched some tape and he's definitely got some play-making skills. Again, not another name that excited me, but once I took the time to look at him, I feel much better. I think we've fortified our defense and increased depth and competition on the offensive line. Hopefully, we've done the same w/ our WRs.

The Texans were just a QB away from the big game last season.

1 QB or 1 JJ away, depending on your perspective.

Man I hope we get to see Harrison this year. I really think the Texans held him back last year just to learn under JJ and Vance. I don;t think they wanted to throw him to the wolves like they did with KJ...

Is this not the first draft of Rick Smith's that didn't include a CB? As of 8 minutes ago they hadn't signed a FA CB either. Seems to me they're saying "steady as she goes" at the position. No telling what happens between here and September 9th though. Guess we'll all find out together.

Agree with others about the kicker. He was the top rated kicker and the Texans got him just before a run on kickers took place. Like the pick and where they got him.

I think a fifth rounder or or later on a kicker is ideal.
