According to last years win loss records NE will have leagues easiest schedule again. This is per ESPN. Is this strange that NE always has an easy schedule or just a product of thier division?

It has to be a product of their division, as only two opponents are determined by previous year's record now.
We know in advance who 14 games out of 16 will be in 2013, for instance. |

With the way the formula works, the best teams get easier schedules in general. Teams with great records don't have to play themselves, so they don't have those wins count against them. Whereas the rest of their division does have to count those wins against their percentage, which pushes it up. It's really not a great way to gauge the strength of schedule though.

The team with the easiest schedule has missed the playoffs in each of the last five seasons.

and we got the 4th easiest schedule.
This strength of schedule thing is so over blown. You guys know that this year there well be at least five to ten teams do something much different than what they did last year. That, of course, could be getting much worse OR better, but you know it happens.

Yes and no. Teams that win their division have to play the other divisional leaders while the lower ranked teams get games against lower ranked teams in other divisions. But... yeah... that's usually not enough to offset the fact that the divisional winners get to play 6 games against teams that did worse than they did the previous season. But also, the Patriots (besides playing their own division which wasn't very strong), they also just happened to luck into playing the AFC South and the NFC West and those were two of the weaker divisions in the league last year. We, on the other hand, just happened to luck into playing the strongest NFC division and the second strongest AFC division. We've only got a "weak" schedule because of our divisional schedule.

Our division and their division = NFL's easiest schedule...
