Look at the QBs of those teams.... It has nothing to do with them not spending money on the running back position. If they had a RB like Foster, they would spend money on a back. The reason only reason why they haven't is because they don' have that guy. Players like Foster don't grow on trees. Our RB almost single handedly carried us into the AFC Championship game without our QB. He's worth the money. A player who accounts for 140 yards of offense and a TD a game is WELL WORTH that money. And when the cap increases next year we can more than afford his cap hit as well.

So glad they locked him up, after seeing his performance in the playoffs.

We knew he was going to get PAID

He makes this offense go around

And the Pats haven't won a super bowl since they last had a 1,000 yard rusher(Corey Dillon). Giants/Packers/Steelers all have/had reliable backs that can pick up yards when they need them too, but they also all have elite QBs so that's not as necessary most of the time.

Don't buy into everything ESPN tells you all the time. Form your own opinions and honestly tell me that we would have been as good as we were last year without Arian Foster. I think you should already have that answer.

Seriously......... the guy is the type of running back you only find one of every 10 years. Yes he is that good. We will have him through his prime. He will "Help" bring this team and A.J a few superbowl rings.

Compared to the deals AP and CJ2YPC got .... the Texans got a bargin ....

What makes this Texans offense so good is its balance. The run works off the pass jsut as much as the pass works off of the run. Foster is a huge part of that balance.

After two years starting:

AP = 3494 total yards
CJ = 3997
JC = 3352
Rice = 3817
MJD = 3406
Foster = 4061

Good investment.

You pay what it takes to make sure the key to your offense stays on your team.
The key to the Steelers' offense is Big Ben.
The key to the Pats' offense is Brady.
The key to the Packers' offense is Rodgers.
The key to the Giants' offense is Eli.

The key to the Texans' offense is Foster. The threat of him busting one makes the defense peek in the backfield to see if he's getting the ball. When they take that "peek", that gives A.J. a step against double coverage.... it gives Schaub an extra split second to throw or makes his slow-as-molasses rollouts work.

You pay the key to your offense.

I think we lost to New Orleans because we couldn't run the ball & control the clock. If we had Arian that day (& he was on his game) we'd have easily beat them in Nawlins.

No one knows for sure but there is word that the cap might not go up next year. *my Comment has nothing to do with Foster or his contract.

The details are in on Houston Texans Pro Bowl running back Arian Foster's $43.5 million contract that includes nearly $21 million in guaranteed money.

According to a league source, Foster received a $12.5 million signing bonus.

Foster's annual average is $8.7 million.

The deal includs base salaries of $5 million in 2012 and $5.25 million in 2013 with both years guaranteed for skill, injury and cap.

His base salaries are $5.75 million in 2014, $6 million in 2015 and $6.5 million in 2016, the final year of his deal.

The contract includes a roster bonus of $406,250 in 2012 with $31,250 for every game that he's active.

There are roster bonus of $500,000 apiece in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 with the same stipulation regarding him being paid $31,250 for every game that he's active.

In terms of the guaranteed money at signing, including bonus and salary guaranteed for skill, injury and cap, here's how some recent running back deals stack up: DeAngelo Williams ($21 million), Foster ($20.75 million), Adrian Peterson ($20.25 million) and Chris Johnson ($13 million).

A former undrafted free agent from Tennessee, Foster was a restricted free agent.

The contract is similar to the Williams deal signed last year as an unrestricted free agent.

Williams signed a $43 million deal that included $21 million guaranteed through a $16 million bonus

I'm not a fan of giving RBs big deals.

Usually.

This time, I'm freaking elated. I think it is great deal for both sides. Arian gets his deserved contract and a couple of rings to boot - and the Texans get the perfect running back for the system, and doesn't get ravished financially, and keep their cap in tact.

It is the $5 mil 2012 salary plus one fifth of the $12.5 signing bonus. So $7.5 mil on the cap in 2012.
