Default Kubiak: AFC Coach of the Year

Texans coach Gary Kubiak will be in Kansas City on Saturday, where he will be honored as the AFC Coach of the Year at the 42nd Annual NFL 101 Awards banquet.

Kubiak will be presented by his mentor and former boss, Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

San Francisco’s Jim Harbaugh was voted NFC Coach of the Year.

Kubiak led the Texans to a 10-6 regular-season record, the AFC South title and a playoff victory over Cincinnati before they were eliminated in the divisional round at Baltimore.

“I’m honored to receive this award,” Kubiak said. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work that our players and coaches put in last season. We were able to overcome some obstacles caused by injuries, and it’s a credit to them. I’d like to share it (award) with them.”

Other award winners were Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers (NFC offensive player), New England quarterback Tom Brady (AFC offensive player), Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen (NFC defensive player) and Baltimore outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (AFC defensive player).

The event features winners of six awards voted on by a national committee of 101 NFL sportswriters and broadcasters. Proceeds from the event go to the Truman Medical Center Charitable Foundation through the Chiefs Children’s Fund.

Congrats to ALL the staff, and especially Kubiak!

Jared Allen was the best NFC defensive player??? A couple guys on Giants, a rookie in San Fran, a guy in Atlanta, and possibly a guy in Detroit had pretty good years too.

Is that really a surprise? Dude had 22 sacks on a poor team. If the Vikings had been even mediocre he is probably the DPOTY.

Well deserved.

I really like Kubiak as a person. I would like for him to continue on the path he started this past season, and become a legend in this city like Bum is. Instead of Bum's silhouette of him in the cowboy hat, a silhouette of Kubiak and his hair will become iconic around these parts, lol.

So my threads about coach of the year and contract extension may be valid.

Congrats Coach Kubiak and to all of your assistants, especially that rather heavy-set gentleman who runs your defensive platoon.

Marketing department needs to get on a fan item that has a visor with spikey brown hair attached to the visor and sticking out of the top of it.

The Kubiak hair dryer with accessories. Good for one terribly executed trick play a game.

to think there were those that said this team couldn't overcome his terrible coaching...even with the wade phillips acquisition...we just need him to build on it now...while we still have the son of bum.
