Default Kubiak: AFC Coach of the Year

Texans coach Gary Kubiak will be in Kansas City on Saturday, where he will be honored as the AFC Coach of the Year at the 42nd Annual NFL 101 Awards banquet.

Kubiak will be presented by his mentor and former boss, Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

San Francisco’s Jim Harbaugh was voted NFC Coach of the Year.

Kubiak led the Texans to a 10-6 regular-season record, the AFC South title and a playoff victory over Cincinnati before they were eliminated in the divisional round at Baltimore.

“I’m honored to receive this award,” Kubiak said. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work that our players and coaches put in last season. We were able to overcome some obstacles caused by injuries, and it’s a credit to them. I’d like to share it (award) with them.”

Other award winners were Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers (NFC offensive player), New England quarterback Tom Brady (AFC offensive player), Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen (NFC defensive player) and Baltimore outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (AFC defensive player).

The event features winners of six awards voted on by a national committee of 101 NFL sportswriters and broadcasters. Proceeds from the event go to the Truman Medical Center Charitable Foundation through the Chiefs Children’s Fund.
