Happens all the time with Coaches. You scale up and down that ladder....all nomad/gun-for-hire jobs. Dolphin gig ain't chopped liver.

Seems like a very solid hire. HC experience in College & Kubiak connection in NFL. Will keep balanced blend of run & pass. Like fact he comes from outside organization & possibly offer a different perspective of current players on roster & help set Texans draft board, as well free agent acquisition.

Default Texans hire new QB coach Karl Dorrell

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...ule=HP11_MYNFL

Quote:
The Texans have hired Karl Dorrell as their new quarterbacks coach to replace Greg Knapp, the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.

Dorrell, 48, was the receivers and quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins this past season. He knows Texans coach Gary Kubiak from when they were both on the Denver Broncos' staff under Mike Shanahan -- Kubiak as offensive coordinator and Dorrell as receivers coach.

Dorrell left the NFL in 2003 to become head coach of the UCLA Bruins. He was 35-27 in five seasons before the Bruins fired him.

The Raiders hired Knapp to be their new offensive coordinator last week.

Not that surprising if you look at his coaching career. He's never been a coordinator in the NFL. He's had a few OC jobs in college though. I'm guessing he probably could have had another coordinator job for some university but would rather be in the pros, even if it is as a position coach.

Karl Dorrell has joined the Houston Texans coaching staff as quarterbacks coach, the team announced Friday. Dorrell brings 24 years of collegiate and professional coaching experience to the Texans, including the last four seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

In 2011, Dorrell oversaw a career season for Dolphins QB Matt Moore, who took over as the teamís starter in Week 5. Moore set career highs with 210 completions on 347 attempts for 2,497 yards and 16 touchdowns. He ranked fourth among AFC passers with an 88.7 passer rating after taking over as the starter and tied or set single-game career highs for passer rating, touchdown passes and longest touchdown pass.

From 2008-10, Dorrell served as the Dolphins wide receivers coach. In 2010, Dolphins WRs Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess combined for 165 receptions, the fourth-highest total by a duo in the NFL. Bess totaled 209 receptions from 2008-10 under Dorrellís guidance, the most by any Dolphins player in his first three years with the team.
Quote:
Prior to coaching at UCLA, Dorrell was wide receivers coach with the Denver Broncos from 2000-02, serving with current Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison and tight ends coach Brian Pariani. WR Rod Smith posted a pair of 100-reception seasons, earned his first two Pro Bowl selections and eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark three times under Dorrell. In 2000, WR Ed McCaffrey posted 101 receptions for 1,317 yards and combined with Smith for 201 receptions, 2,919 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

Dorrell also worked with the Broncosí staff during training camp in 1993 and 1999 as part of the NFLís Minority Coaching Fellowship program.

Well he did seem to make Matt Moore look like a real QB. Wonder what he can do with Yates?
