Three-peat: Texans win top tailgating honors

For the third consecutive year, Reliant Stadium has been named the top tailgating site in the NFL.

Joe Cahn, the Commissioner of Tailgating, announced the honor at the Texans’ regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 1.

“Congratulations, Houston, for being named the best tailgating NFL city in the country,” Cahn said. “It’s special because of the tailgaters, it’s special because of the fans, it’s special because of the Texans. Go Texans!”

Texans fans have filled Reliant Stadium for 101 consecutive sellouts. The atmosphere outside the stadium before games has become just as renowned as the in-game homefield advantage. Reliant Stadium also received recognition as the league’s best tailgating venue in 2009 and 2010.

Hey, we take pride in the fact that we make the 3 1/2 hour drive up on saturday, tailgate as BEST we can, being setup by 8:10, and go back to SA after more food afterwards AND making a stop to see the 'rents in sugar land.! Ain't ever anything super special, but we feel like its darn nice- esp for lookin at the friggin astro hall :-( its always a rough drive back being hoarse and exhausted, but damn its worth it!!! When we started coming to games a few years ago it was- bring the convertible and a little cooler and walk around; now we commished the yukon JUST to hauling us to games, and big ole texans magnets stay on her year round! (walking is fun, but I'd rather play ball, cook good food, and ENJOY the best tailgating in the freakin NFL! Hell yea Texans- BR put us in the SB with GB next season- I'm all for it, and I KNOW our guys are too!

Yeah, we make sure Commish has a magnificent time. He was kind enough to stop by my tailgate just as I was about to go into the stadium. He is good people.

It is hard to compete with the Texans with Commish's criteria because: 1. Texans promote tailgating (some teams do not, and are anti-tailgating with their policies) 2. We've got tons of tailgating real estate around Reliant. Some stadiums don't have that; 3. Texan fans ability to do things Texas style. Big, proud and enthusiastically. You can't beat Texas for food and drinks. You just can't.
