Kubiak deserves a standing ovation
Jerome Solomon Come on Houston, we’re better than that. I have been as hard on the guy as anyone in town because he was only good and average (and sometimes below that) in his first five years as a head coach. But to overly criticize him for the work he has done this season is a bit much. I’m not saying he deserves blind worship. No coach is above being questioned. I don’t think Kubiak made the right move in not playing Andre Johnson against the Colts. (See Andre’s answer to my question about how rusty he was in his first game back from injury earlier this season and you know it is no small deal that he gets some run before the playoffs begin.) I will also question him on Sunday if Jake Delhomme doesn’t get a few snaps against the Titans. (Kubiak’s answer to my question about that possibility indicated he doesn’t plan too.) But if you don’t realize that Kubiak is coaching his you-know-what off this year, you’re not paying attention. From Day 1, I have said that (as is the case with any competent person) Kubiak is getting better at his job daily. There was no noticeable improvement last year and I don’t think he did a great job. I would have fired him two years ago. But I am impatient like that. See what the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are doing this year with horrid defenses and you get my point that the Texans’ high-powered offense last year wasn’t nearly the great offense most made it out to be. Even with a terrible defense, better coaching last year would have delivered something better than a 6-10 record. But I don’t know if anyone – Lombardi, Landry, Walsh, you name him – could have gotten more than 10-5 out of this Texans team. Yes, the loss to Indy was beyond embarrassing, but I’m not going to lay blame solely at the head coach’s feet. The Texans have lost two games in a row, but give ‘em a break. Kubiak has led his team to a 3-2 record without his starting quarterback and less than a half with his No. 2 QB. That deserves praise. Period. And I’m no homer. The hands-down coach of the year is Jim Harbaugh. I likes me some Harbaugh. I don’t know if I have ever been more impressed in an initial meeting with a coach than I was when I met and talked to him at Stanford last year. He has done a great job with the 49ers. But don’t let the possible unanimous vote for that award fool you. Kubiak has done a great (not good) job with the Texans this season. Possibly even a better job than Harbaugh has with the 49ers. Check that. My man Harbaugh has Alex Smith at quarterback. There is no competition. But give Kubiak some love too. Pro Football Weekly does an interesting team injury ranking. At No. 8, the Texans are the “highest” ranking playoff team on the injury list. The 49ers rank 32nd on that list. That isn’t coaching. That’s just luck, which, as I have mentioned before, is a key coaching component. You don’t think the Texans would be at least 12-3, as is San Francisco, if Matt Schaub, Mario Williams, Andre Johnson, Danieal Manning and Arian Foster had not been injured this season? Please. Still, despite all the injuries, Kubiak has a division-winning team that is about to win its 11th game and should be favored to win a home playoff game with a fifth-round rookie quarterback running the offense. Stand your butts up and clap, Houston. http://blog.chron.com/jeromesolomon/...nding-ovation/ |

Kubiak went from "he should be coach of the year" to "fire him/no wade, no glory".

Until you can show some posts in the last week where anyone on this site suggested to fire Kubiak because they lost to the Colts, than STFU!! Bring some substance into the thread or something meaningful, but for crying out loud stop trying to bring this site down by creating lies about what other posters have stated or what their arguments have been. Point it out and show all these posters that have advocated this in the last week if you're going to keep on with this chicken **** agenda of calling other people poor fans because they don't agree with your "sunshine on everything" agenda at all costs with the Texans. |

You say this as if you've got half the board calling for the HC's head. Enough already. We get it, you love the HC and think he has done a great job. Over all for the entire season he has. Make your case based off of what's in Soloman's article if that is your position. The last thing anyone wants to read is some petty little "troll post" where someone slides in and exaggerates and down right lies about what all these folks are advocating for. No one expects Gary to be fired after this season. They may want that at season end, but they won't expect it to happen at all.

Believe me when I tell YOU..... We CAN'T have enough *facepalms* given many of the new posters with their posts - let alone their new threads....
![]() FML!! *EDIT* I revised this post to avoid the harsh negative rep. from "Scooter". He apparently frowns upon teasing "noobs"... Sorry Scooter!

If nothing else, I think 99% of us can agree that Kubiak does not deserve an extension.

I'm not sure I'd change my mind about Kubiak if he wins a game or two in the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, I want the man gone, but I'll be cheering like hell for him to win. Being a Texan fan rises above disliked or beloved players/coaches/GM/owner. I used to cheer for the Oilers while I hated Bud Adams. I can cheer for the Texans while wishing Kubiak gone.

Why not. Of course the answer is that we aren't & never was an elite offense. PurtEdamnGud, but not elite. I saw an interesting statement last night when I rewatched the Panthers game. Gary Kubiak is the only coach in the last 5 years to have the Rushing, Passing, & Receiveing leaders on the same team. May not have been all on the same year, but.. if you've got a QB that can lead the league in passing, a receiver that can lead the league in receiving, and a RB who can lead the league in rushing...... why can't you score 30 at will? Why can't you score 21 at will? If our offense could have done that, our defense could have looked a lot better. If they could have just stayed on the field, our defense would not have been such a liability. This year, we've got the defense to back it up & we can play a ball control offense. But last year.... last year, we needed to get on the board early & often.

LOL TK, if the Texans win two playoff games with Yates at the helm, even I might have to change my mind.
