I don't see what the problem is beyond that. It's his opinion. It's his right to have it.

Our team's job is to shove it in his face.

Every year all these guys make predictions like this and almost all of them are wrong. They really don't know any more about who's going to win anything than I do. His opinion has as much weight as my cat's opinion.

I don't see what the big deal is.

It's a no-brainer why media talking heads make these points sometimes. I don't have to like or agree with their perspectives, but, I can certainly understand why they feel the way that they do.

Respect is earned in the NFL. And until the Texans earn that respect, expect the media déjà vu.

See I just don't buy the last two sentences except as a fan truism. The Bills have sucked since Philips left there. The current team doesn't deserve any respect from his teams or the Bills team that went to four straight SB's. They are completely different animals.

It appears none of the other AFC Sourth teams will even be starting the same QB as last year except the Texans. This current roster has to earn respect, not some team history. Lombardi made two stupid comments - (1) if it hasn't happened yet, I won't predict it happening in the future (good thing Edison didn't believe that) and (2) the Titans are the most complete team in the division.

Yeah, I can understand the argument except for the fact that guys on this message board may get workouts at QB inside this division.

yeah, but this same thread seems to crop up every season. Take Lombardi's name out and add some other media hack. But the underlying point is the same: Texans fans upset because of national media perception.

The media respects the Steelers, Patriots, Colts. And it is simply because they are consistently winning franchises. They earned that respect through wins.

Texans fans upset from lack of respect is just another sign of inferiority complex, IMHO. Every year it seems like our team is picked as a Cinderella story, and every year it's the same abysmal results.

"Fan truism" or not doesn't necessarily negate it's simple premise. The Texans - as a franchise and as a Kubiak team of the past few of years - have earned nothing.

BTW, I'm not defending Lombardi. I have never given him much thought. Just another media hack going through the motions as far as I'm concerned.

But honestly, I respect results, not potential. This roster is only as good as the results it posts on the scoreboard at the end of the day. If they go 6-10, the "roster respect" is as worthless as the reserve seating for a Texans playoff game.

I think the media wants to like the Texans. Houston is the biggest market in the AFC South and it's not even close. The reason they are always talking about NY teams, Cowboys, Steelers, etc because those teams have a ton of fans. They are always picking us to be the underdog darling or the darkhorse I really think they want to like this team.

But I have no problem with a guy not picking the Texans...but give a better reason than "They haven't done it before.." say that you don't think Schaub is a winner or Kubiak. Say it's going to take some time to get the 3-4 implemented. Say that Foster's hammy might slow the team down. Give actual analysis.

What Lombardi's saying is he has no faith in Gary leading the Texans to the playoffs. (It's on me. LOL)


I happen to disagree with Lombardi this yr. Wade will help mask most of Garys flaws. That and the fact that it appears that the Texans will be facing Collins/McCown/Hasselbeck 4/6 games this yr.

The Texans should win the AFC South. Absolutely. They're being handed the title on a silver platter. Have they ever actually accomplished anything? Nope. Are they capable of choking this season away?
