Default Week 12 Mock

First Round: SR. OG Cordy Glenn, Georgia 6050 328

Ready to compete for starting minutes. Can add even more value as swing tackle too. Four year starter with experience both right & left guard positions. Watching him pull block & seal using his athletic ability with long arm extention makes me think he will be elite @ the next level. In Texans system his ability to pass block & get to the second level will serve him well.

Second Round: SR. WR Kendall Wright, Baylor 5100 190

Texans will use their highest pick since Jacoby to upgrade their #2 WR position. Going with both experience & production. More explosive than Broyles, stronger & faster has developed into excellent route runner, tough & durable. Solid second round grade.

Third Round: SR. NT Mike Martin, Michigan, 6022 303

Adds depth to middle of defense, setting up nice rotation & insurance in case of injury. What intriques me the most about Mike is his motor runs hot, he is constantly working & never gives up on a play. This is a theme in a Wade Phillips system, the type of passionate, hardworking overachieving player.

Fourth Round: SR. TE David Paulson, Oregon 6040 250

One of my favorite players in all of College Football, just reminds me so much of Owen Daniels with slightly bigger frame & even better hands. Just a human vacuum that functions well under pressure. Does all the little things that make big gains for teammates like blocking. Think of him more as a big WR.

Fifth Round: SR. ILB Jerry Franklin, Arkansas 6100 245

Jerry leds a very good defensive Arkansas unit in tackles with with 93, 20 more than talented Alonzo Highsmith. Not much of a sack artist which hurts his stock & reason I feel he could still be available but solid wrap up tackler, excellent depth player for a Texan squad with more than its share of injury's.

Sixth Round: SR. CB/S Robert Golden, Arizona 5110 200

Really think he will be a solid player, fits in with secondary group. Physical with good size plays with a lot of heart & passion. Third on team in tackles with 69, seems like a natural back-up to Quin who is playing outstanding football, is the kind of football I love to watch play the game.

From here until the deadline I'm going to focus only on the senior class for use in my mock drafts or until a prospect makes his intentions official. A lot will depend on a number of underclassman eligible coming out early which should add a lot of depth especially to the first round. A QB addition could come if the right Junior or draft eligible red-shirt sophomore declares early.

Default Re: Week 12 Mock

Where in the draft do you envision us picking, what number?

1. The name is Cordy Glenn, not Glenn Cordy and I like him alot as a prospect as well. I think he's an early 2nd round pick though so we'd have to take him in the 1st if we want him. Do you really see OG as our biggest need and if so why? I'm not against the pick but I think their are better OG's to be had if you want one in the 1st round.

2. Wright, he's a good WR but I think he can be had in the 3rd round. I like a taller WR and think we could do better with Criner, Fuller, or McNutt in the 2nd round.

3. Martin, I like the pick and thinks he's good value in the 3rd round. He'd fit nicely in a rotation with Cody. I'd pick a NT earlier but I can't argue with the value Martin has in the 3rd round. I'd like to see him add some weight.

4. Paulson, I like him as a player but just don't see the need for another TE. Even if we lose Dreesen in FA Paulson would still be behind OD, Graham, and probably Casey on the depth chart. I'm not arguing with his talent, he's got it, just don't see the need when we have so many depth needs on defense.

5. Franklin, I don't know alot about him but I like the size and position picked. Depth at ILB is a big need. Good pick.

6. Golden, I don't know anything about him either. Do you see him as a CB or Safety? As a safety he'd add depth where it's needed. As a CB, no thanks, we've got enough late round depth.

Based off end of first (31st).

1. Can't go wrong with a stud OL. versatility is key. ability to start immediately if needed also important. this is one area of the team not devastated by injury, if it where to happen however, there goes the running game for Foster & Tate along with protection Yates (Schaub/Leinart) will need to move forward in the postseason.

2. Texans would be lucky if Wright is still available in the 2nd. Addresses most gaping need, adds depth/playmaking ability to WR position.

3. Wanted to address NT early too, Poe is a Junior & I have no evidence he is coming out early & yes can't find any film to watch him play. Would consider Chapman, Thompson or Ta'amu late second if there?

4. Every year get the proverbial man crush on a prospect to play for the Texans. I see Paulson moving up draft boards, especially as teams see how effective the TE position has become, just watch the Texans. Bottom line he will help the passing attack as much as another WR this late, fits the clubhouse, clean, humble & hard working.

5. Franklin would be a steal here. Very productive adds depth to LB.

6. See Glover Quin. Strong safety with cover skills who is active in run support.

thanks for your feedback, all good

BL you think Yates is taking us to the Super Bowl? Supremely confident aren't you. I sure hope your right but I'm thinking we'll be picking in the 20-24 range.

Yates will test all Kubiak's rescources. Let's give them both a chance, remember this is still just week 12 plenty of football left to play & Texans schedule is solid but not over whelming. Kubiak will have Yates manage his offense. He cannot turn the ball over or put players in position to take unnecessary shots. TJ will show poise under pressure & make a play or two yet keep within himself & game plan scripted.

I see no reason why Texans cannot finish with 11-5 or 12-4 record with TJ Yates @ QB.

All of our players, especially defense are receiving better coaching now and improving weekly. Yates is getting intensive time with coaches rather than just being an afterthought. This does not make him a superstar but may allow him to develop enough to take us into playoffs.

Looking for something worthwhile in these seemingly meaningless early mock drafts for your Houston Texans? The College games are still being played so you can follow these players & judge for yourself with actual game film instead of internet draft sites or what Kipper, McShay, Lombardi or Rang say.

Watch David Paulson tonight on ABC 6:30pm when Oregon plays UCLA in PAC 12 Championship.

You can see Kendall Wright showcase his skills tomorrow 2:30 ABC when Texas visits Baylor.

Watch or DVR LSU vs Georgia to see the talented Cordy Glenn 3:00pm create running lanes or pass protection for Aaron Murray.

From this weekend you will have to wait for the bowl games. Then Senior Bowl & other post season showcase all star games before the combine.

Enjoy & give me some feedback of what you see from these games!

I agree, I like Yates alot. He seems to have the poise under pressure that rookies don't normally possess, no happy feet. I think he'll do fine and will throw the ball away instead of forcing bad passes. He's got a good arm and is athletic, can run when needed. I think he could add a dimension to our passing game that we're not used to, mobility. I heard on the radio that he's been putting in late nights with Kubiak and other coaches, staying until 10-12 at night for intensive instruction. It's only been a small sampling of playing but I like what I see in Yates more so than Leinart. I fully expect the Falcons to stack the box, shut down the run, and pressure the crap out of Yates so those short passes in the flats or dump off's will be important. I also expect to see plenty 3 step drops from Yates with quick throws before the pressure can develop. I'm really glad this game is at home and think we stand a good shot of getting the W. If Yates plays well I can see him being our #2 QB next season.

I thought Yates answered the bell, silenced some questions & enabled Texan continued winning ways despite very little WR help. Once Andre went down I became concerned. Jacoby had two targets, one was called interference on defense so I guess he did help move the chains, the other was low & away incomplete (Yates put it where only he could catch it, Jacoby did get both hands on it but couldn't reel it in). Other than Andre who had 4 receptions, 3 each for TE Owen Daniels & RB Arian Foster but only one reception by another WR Kevin Walters. Talk about Schaub needing help what about Yates? What about if Andre is out again? I don't think the Texans can wait until the 2nd round to select a WR. The problem is they either have to trade up to get one of the top 3 or reach for more of a #1 type WR late first.

This will be our task for a week 13 mock. I will flip OG w/WR. Brisel causes too many false starts (3) for my taste & Winston got beat bad by Abraham almost killing Yates & I don't want to see the second coming of Mr. Mittens.

This is why I'm on board for letting MW walk. If you let MW walk you can re-sign Foster and sign a vet like Bowe/Meachem/V.Jackson in FA. Which I would do, in addition to drafting K.Wright after trading up to the top of 2nd rd.

Doing this would take a current weakness and turn it into a strength. The Texans should draft like they believe AJ cant stay healthy for a full yr and add 1 proven vet in addition to a high draft pick. The pink elephant nobody wants to talk about is AJ's injury prone and aging quickly.

It's time for the Texans to invest at WR for the present and the future.

WOW, BB and I usually agree on most things and you and I have differing opinions most times but we seem to be agreeing on some issues lately.
1. Yates played very well and proved he can handle the position and pressure he's been thrust into. One game isn't enough to tell the whole story on Yates for this season but he's looking promising. If he plays great I can see us trading him for some early picks in the next draft.
2. I agree the WR's didn't do much to help T.J. and Jacoby again proved why he needs to be replaced or only remain on the roster as a #4 WR after a pay cut. When JJ dropped the ball that hit him in the hands I was pissed.
3. I'd have no problem with a WR in the 1st round either, I like Dwight Jones alot. I actually keep going back and forth in my mocks between 1st round NT and 2nd round WR, or 1st round WR and 2nd round NT. I can go either way since Cody seems to be playing fairly well lately.
4. I also got pissed at Briesel but the false starts are mental errors that are easily correctable with a foot in his ass so I'll leave OG until the 3rd round, their should be some good ones left in the 3rd.
5. As for Winston I'd have no problem fixing our OG issues by moving him inside and drafting a good RT or moving Brown to RT and selecting one of the top 3 LT's if one falls into our lap, highly unlikely. Winston is slowing down and has short arms which screams OG to me.

1. If Yates plays well, gets the Texans a playoff win or to the SB, he's the QB of the present and future. If he goes say 4-1 in the regular season and wins a playoff game. Then Schaub may be the one getting traded and I'm a Schaub guy.

2. Jacoby has bad hands, he's a poor route runner and is afraid to go across the middle. He understands the offense and is a good PR. This is the definition of a 4th WR. In 5 yrs how much has JJ improved? He looked better during his rookie preseason and the 1st 3 games of the regular season. He's what he's going to be at this point in his career.

3. If I were picking and thought as highly of D.Jones as you do, he would be my 1st rd pick. (I like Jones that much too) Yates familiarity with Jones would put him at the top of my wish list.

4. Briesel- if one of the top rated OG's fall out of the 1st rd (Glenn/DeCastro) you would have to consider moving up to take him. This would be a classic talent meets need thing. I would probably stay put and take Washington in the 2nd rd. This along with the FA WR and Jones would make my offense complete.

5. I would have no problems moving Winston inside either, but this is a weak OT class after Kalil,Martin and Reiff. IMHO Reiff would be the perfect ZBS LT though.

Why are folks saying wright will be available in the third? He won't be and he may go first round after he runs his forty at the combine.

And Andre dropped a much more catchable ball in the game too. Andre should have made that catch to help out his young qb that put it right on the money. Jacoby has played well this year overall.

Reiff was the guy I was thinking of as well when I said if one of the top 3 falls to us. It's very unlikely though.

Cordy Glenn actually plays LT for Georgia. If Texans drafted him I would imagine him displacing Brisel or Smith, however if it was decided to kick Winston inside then he could very well be excellent as the new starting RT. He is over 6050 325 lbs. will have to wait until the combine for measurements but he has very long arms, somewhere in the 35" range which would be two inches longer than Eric Winston.

If he can play RT effectively, better than Winston, then I've got no problem with him at all. I think it's time for the Texans to give serious thought to improving 2 spots plus backup depth with one pick. We've talked about it a little for the last couple years but it's time and just makes good sense. They'd get much better at RG, better at RT, and much better at backup depth with Caldwell and Briesel over guys like Studdard and Garner. It also seems like there are several guys to choose from in the 2nd round, possibly Glenn, Adcock, and Washington, etc... that could fill that RT spot.
