Default Where is all the speed and pressure?

As a SoCal exan fan, I do not get to see very many, if any games. But I am curious- where is all the Defensive pressure? It seems that the only ones who can get to the QB are Wong and Dunta. What is going on?

We don't pressure the QB, its actually quite brilliant. We lul him into a deep trance in the pocket and as a result he is totally ineffective.

but damn, so far it isnt working.

To be honest, I saw the defense putting on the blitzes but the Bengals were just picking it up. I am thinking these schemes have been seen before and our schemes just don't cut it in this day and age.

despite reports of his demise the Texans sorely missed Babin. Peek is a total bonehead & took himself out of the game that left our front three who have to struggle through double teams to apply pressure & many times they moved the pocket but you need that LB or CB to blitz from different angles to pressure the QB (in this case Palmer).

frankly I'm all for ditching the 3-4 we just don't have the playmakers to make it happen!

the bengals we're ripe for the pick'en

I was in your boat. Ahhhhhhh......NFL Sunday Ticket is a great thing.

We have NEVER been able to pressure the QB. I specifically watch for it every game and am amazed how little push our guys get. I would love to know why?
We need a guy like Freeney on our team.

Again, we don't have the personnel, but that's what I know and that's what I'm going to play............................. Sorry, but so many people are saying the same thing in different ways. Its just unbelieveably funny. Capers can not and will not adjust to his personnel.

the pass rush still is not what is needed but it was not horrible yesterday. They got two sacks and peek and orr did put some pressure on carson. Peek nearly caused an INT when he grabbed Palmers arm, and orr got a good chase in there. The problem is they still only rush 4 guys. Thats why the pressure sucks. You cant beat 5 or 6 blockers very well with only 4 rushers.

Defensive Pressure? We don't need no stinking defensive pressure. To paraphrase the killer bees.

I am amazed at how consistently our inside blitz gets picked up. When we send a corner or safety from the edge, we do OK (if we don't get burned), but the inside blitzes never get through. And by never, I mean 101 times out of 100. It staggers the imagination.

Ask Casserly, he's the one that built this team or rather should take the heat for the players on it.

The problem is we're playing a Cover-2 like defense disguised as a 3-4. We're reading and reacting instead of attacking.
And when we're rushing four or five, we're taking them head on. I hardly see any stunts, delayed blitzes, etc. by our front seven. Also, our safeties never line-up at the LOS to blitz, stop the run, and confuse QBs.

frankly I'm all for ditching the 3-4 we just don't have the playmakers to make it happen!
I think we have the players to make it work. IMO, it's the coaches who are holding them back. We've got run stuffers on our DL, fast athletic LBs who can shoot the gaps and cover, corners who can run w/ any WR, a SS who's a tackling machine, and a FS who can cover any receiver.

BTW, did anyone else scratch their head when we opted to rush 3 (or was it 4) guys on 3rd and goal at the 40?

The Bengals had to shift their left guard to center and start a second string lineman due to injuries to their centers. Whether it was the scheme or lack of physical talent, they didn't do a good job. Credit the Bengals backfield. They did a good job picking up the pass rush from the RB's and TE's.

Too bad that if we had a guy like Freeney we'd put him in a 2 point stance and drop him back into coverage.

We might as well pave roads for our rushing lanes, that is how predictable they are.

freeney would be completely nullified in our scheme. in most every other defense played, you've got 3-5 guys rushing, and they know before the snap what their assignment is. we simply do not. as it's being said across the board, we have a read & react defense that's too complicated for the personnel. the olb's wait to see what the rb/fb does, if they hang back or hit the other side, then they blitz ... and blitz wide every time. plus we very rarely blitz the ilb's.

Our speedy defense would have at least 21 sacks so far, if they could play our offensive line each week.

Why is everybody bitc#in about the Ds performance on Sunday, they held a very good offensive team to a TD and a couple of FGs on their own field !

All I saw was Defensive backs backing up covering. Also, saw the linebackers trying to cover recievers. I didn't see very much blitzing, by LB, or CB's--very little!
