Get AJ the Ball!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday's game vs. the Bengals showed a marked improvement, and I know there are still issues with the offensive line, but for God's sake, the coaching staff has got to figure out a way to get Andre Johnson the ball!!!! He needs to touch the ball AT LEAST 10 times a game. This guy is to good to be wasting him this way. :brickwall

Hard to beleive that he was the only Texan to make the Pro-Bowl - D. Rob was shafted, though - and doesn't even have 100 yards for the season. Waste of talent. I think he shoudl say something about it too. DC & AJ, y'all need to talk.

All receivers have drops. Jerry Rice, T.O., Moss, all of them.

I think your referring to the quick screen that he dropped yesterday. Hey, that stuff happens, but it's magnified when you only get 3-5 looks a game.

Would it kill the coaching staff to line him up in the slot, have him run a quick slant, and put some pressure on the defense?

I dont understand why we dink and dunk with AJ. I know he can be sent up the field with double coverage and still come down with the ball. Ive seen it happen.

Why dont we try that anymore?

Maybe we get a pass interferance, or maybe we get a 40 yard gain. I see players like Moss, Owens, Glenn, and S.Moss do it all the time.

stats.inc says andre johnson had only ONE drop in 05. chad johnson had 3, randy friggin moss had 2, hines ward dropped 2 and marvin harrison dropped 1. nuff said. 4 drops in 3 games...riiiight...

Stats Inc, apparently hasn't been watchinig the games, nor you. It doesn't take a genius to see that he's dropped more than 1 pass in three games. I'm surprised it's only four, seems there were more than that.

This is what we did last ear with him and he got a pro bowl trip. If he can get a jump ball, or get positioning, odds are he'll catch the ball. We need to ge thim the ball further downfield than giving him 1 yard passes hoping he'll turn it into 40. Why not give him the 40 yard pass and see if he catches it? odds are, he'll get the 40 yard catch before he turns a short gain into a huge one.

Exactly - having watched the first 3 games AJ has certainly dropped more than one pass - Stats Inc is probably not updated their current stats or they have incomplete information. I'll trust my own eyes watching the game more than a stat sheet.

But honestly AJ is goign to have to learn to be more like his idol Rice and learn how to go up and get the ball not just wait for it to come to him and then try to grab at it. Alot of defenders understand the easy way to defend receivers like that - it's called pressance pressure. He hears footsteps and drops the ball. Hes big and strong and if he uses his body more he will start putting himself in between the ball and the defender more and strong arm the ball down. Go up for the ball like it's a rebound in basketball.

IMO Aj and Gaffney I think need to swap back and forth during the game between slot and outside receiver to make the defense be forced to react. A quick slant to AJ is usually an easy 10-15 yards because he can cut inside most defenders esp if their in a zone, it's when they play 2 deep or man coverage then he can stretch it and they need to go down the field. I remember hearing in the post-game review the 610 guys talking about the Texans not going down the field hardly at all and I wont disageee. Honestly was there a pass yesterday of over 20 yards in the air by DC? The longest pass play of the day I remember was the Gaffney catch across the middle. IMO Gaffney looked pretty good yesterday when David wasnt on his backside. Bradofrd made a few decent grabs too. I hope it continues.

The only "easy" yards in the NFL are when teams pass when the Texans are in zone coverage. A slant inside sounds nice, but it's easier said than done.. obviously.

It only seems that way because our sorry excuse for an offensive line doesn't give Carr enough time to check for other recievers. Then, if someone else is able to get open and Carr is able to fire it out to him, they end up dropping it as well.-- i.e. Corey Bradford. Bottom line, it all starts and ends with the O-line. Until they pop their heads out of their butts and begin to pass and run block like pros, we will continue to struggle opening up holes for DD and getting AJ the damb ball! So, you might as well get used to being frustrated/disgusted on Sunday afternoons, cause I don't see it happening anytime soon.

True enough at this point esp...

Was just offering in a slant situation it's easier to get a jump on hot route or even a man defender because as the receiver you can use your body and speed to create a space to throw into unless the LB is sitting back in the slant zone. Playing football myself - it was my favorite play to run and almost always worked against man or zone coverage because the defender couldnt react fast enough and esp on an inside slant the defender was almost always having to reach around the reciever to try and block the ball.

Of course us not having a TE worth a darn to throw too [Rivers/Murphy bruener - drop drop drop]makes it easy for the defense to double up on our receivers too.
